Unlike in MS Windows, there is no single source of Linux drivers for laptops. The installer scans the laptop during installation and downloads the needed drivers that it finds.
Notebooks are especially hard to get working in Linux because they often use specialized hardware to keep down the space, weight, and cost — and only the OEMs (in this case, Acer) have those drivers and in nearly all cases, none of them provide drivers for Linux.
If something is not working, you need to tell us what that is.

appgrid? I wasn’t aware that would help with drivers.
«apt-get install whatever» needs a sudo at the beginning.
Have you made sure the touchpad and wifi are turned on? The keyboard shortcuts using the «Fn» key sometimes turn things on or off at the BIOS level. My Acer, «Fn + F3» turns wifi on or off (and it takes a few seconds for that to happen so give it about 5 seconds after one push).
If just turning them on (sometimes it is boot to BIOS settings) doesn’t get Mint to install the devices definitely post Laurents command output.

Acer Nitro 5 graphics drivers problems [SOLVED]
Post by feralhound » Mon Sep 20, 2021 9:59 am
I’m somewhat puzzled by this. My daughter just purchased an Acer Nitro 5 laptop, and I obligingly installed Linux (Mint 20.2) on it. However, I could only install using «Compatibility Mode», and after installation I had to alter the grub file to continue this. However, after installing the Nvidia drivers (through the drivers panel) the machine would not display the login screen after boot. All that appeared was a non-blinking cursor in the upper left of the screen. I could use ctrl-alt-F2 to get to a console, installed openssh-server, and went through several cycles of sudo apt purge nvidia* (after which the computer would boot normally) and upgrading the kernel, etc.
I would be confident that the hardware is just too new except that I finally succeeded in installing Ubuntu 20.04 Mate on the machine, and then installing the Nvidia drivers.
inxi -Fxz from the working Ubuntu install is as follows:

I would need to attach an external drive to play around with this any more at this point, since my daughter is content to use Ubuntu, but my personal preference is for Mint, and I’m puzzled as to why I could get it to work with Ubuntu but not with Mint.

[SOLVED] Acer Apire 3690 Intel VGA driver help
Post by Spudz » Sat Aug 01, 2015 9:12 pm
Long story short: aging old laptop needed a breath of new life, which led me to linux. To get things started, here is my current system configuration:
Acer Aspire 3690 with:
Intel celeron 420 @1.6 ghz
2 gb ram
integrated intel vga 945G
Booted with Linux Mint 17.2 MATE x32 (no codecs) as the only OS. No changes have been made to the display environment.
My main issue right now is that the resolution in the OS is not going up to par (1024×786 when it should go up to 1280×800. or 1280×900) Also, colors that fade into gradents appear very rough, as if someone tried to vector them, like 16 bit colors instead of 32 bit. Youtube performance is also quite lack-luckster with 720p30fps videos being laggy/choppy.
This led me to believe that the video drivers need updating. After some digging around, it appears that Intel provided automatic driver updates to Ubunto 13.02 and above. Does this apply to Linux Mint as well?
The current driver as shown through the terminal command «lspci -knn | grep -A2 VGA» are as follows:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:27a2] (rev 03) Subsystem: Acer Incorporated [ALI] Device [1025:0090] Kernel driver in use: i915
Any help is greatly appreciated, just got the WiFi working yesterday via b43 install command, so I guess I’m not completely green anymore. This IS my first time using linux

Please generate an overview of your system like this:
— launch a terminal window and make it full screen, to avoid chopped lines;
— copy/paste this command into the terminal:
(if you type: the letter F is a capital letter)
Copy/paste the output in your next message.

EDIT:
Well, I’ve been looking at the output I got from the info dump, and saw that the MESA, Kernel, and X.Org drivers are of an older version when compared to the official drivers found on Intel’s website; link: https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloads. Problem is; the downloads give me the source codes, which I have no idea how to install .
Any further help is appreciated .
