Acer linux no bootable device

Acer Aspire E5-576G-5762 — No bootable device after installing Linux Mint 19

Hi!
I wanted to try something different to Windows 10, so I opted for Linux Mint 19. I´ve performed succesfully various linux instalations but this time, after watching a partitions tutorial, after rebooting, the laptop (acer e5-576g-5762) gives me a message saying that there isnt a bootable device. I looked on the bios for enabling something, I dont remember what is was, but it didn´t allowed me. Also, on the boot «preferences» any disk appeared. What is happening? I can only use Windows? Thanks in advance

You have to set a supervisor password and then add grubx64.efi to the trusted secure boot settings.
And then optionally, you use the F6 key to move linux to the top if you want grub to boot first (instead of windows). as described below. I say «optionally» because some people just continue to use the F12 boot menu when they want to run linux.

To dual boot windows and Ubuntu/Mint, this is the sequence that most people follow:

1. Create Ubuntu or MInt USB media with rufus—-rufus settings: UEFI,GPT,FAT32
2. Go in to Windows Disk Management and shrink your C drive by at least 35 GB
3. Create a supervisor password (in the BIOS settings)
4. Disable secure boot and enable the F12 boot menu
5. Install Ubuntu or Mint along side Windows
6. Go back in to BIOS settings and re-enable secure boot and add grubx64.efi to trusted secure boot settings and save/exit
7. and then go back in to BIOS settings and Use the F6 key to move linux to top (in the boot tab) so grub boots first.

(make sure you backup important personal files and create an Acer USB recovery drive before attempting anything I wrote)

No Bootable Device/UEFI/Acer

No Bootable Device

Post by AndruWho » Sat Aug 10, 2019 5:05 pm

I run Linux Mint on my Lenovo Legion and love it. Now I am trying to install it on another computer and am having a hard time.

The computer is an Acer Aspire E 15 laptop (stock Win10). I booted from a live USB and installed the Mint OS choosing the option to erase the old OS and format the drives while installing the new Mint. Now every time I boot the system I get an error message «No Bootable Device»

I can boot from the USB but can not seem to get the machine to boot into Mint on it’s own.

Go into your BIOS and check your SATA drive status. There’s a good possibility it is set to RAID, change it to AHCI. Also make sure that secure boot is turned off.

Sounds as though you have not selected the proper boot drive.
Go into your bios, ensure you have selected the following:’
1. AHCI
2. UEFI
3. Disabled secure boot
4. Disabled safe boot
Then go to your boot tab and select the following as your boot sequence:
1. USB
2.DVD (if you have one)
3.Hard Drive
Your bios needs to know what device your boot system is on.
You should be right to go then.
If still problems, then start terminal and type in the command inxi -Fxz and post the results here so others can help you.
good luck.

I have the SATA Mode set to AHCI but I can not turn Secure Boot Mode off. In the Security tab of my BIOS the only blue options are Set Supervisor Password and Set HDD0 Password, all other options including Secure Boot Mode, are black or grey and I can not navigate to them. Secure Boot Mode is set to Standard but I can not change it.
