Airport Extreme wifi speed
Typical question. I am paying for 1 gb/sec internet (Suddenlink) and only getting 700mb/s ish wired and 625mb/s ish wireless. I’ve had the service tech out to my house and the gadget that he tests the network with only goes to 750 mb/s so it is hard to know what *really* is happening. So, I have my airport extreme (updated to firmware version 7.79), I have a gigabit modem (surfboard 6190). All of my cabling is CAT7, all of my switches are gigbit switches. The Airport is sitting within view. probably 10ish feet away with clear site line.
I’m just not sure what else to do.

For both I’m using the same WLAN configuration: channel 40, mixed A/N mode (although the ISP’s router also allows ac).I’ve also set the router mode on the Airport express to DHCP and NAT and I’ve set no IPv6 settings other than to configure automatically.Any idea of what could be causing this speed difference? I would really like to keep my Airport express only.Thanks in advance
Airport Extreme 5th gen losing network connection My home network consists of an AirPort Extreme 802.11ac (6th gen) connected via about 30 feet of Cat 6 cable to an AirPort Extreme 802.11n (5th Gen). The n is set to bridge mode. All seems to be fine other than one oddity. When using Airport Utility to view my network the AirPort Extreme 802.11n (5th Gen) intermittently loses network connection for a second or so. Flash off and back on every few minutes or so. I don’t see any other apparent network access issues. Internet connection seems fine. The n is connected by a maybe 3 yearold cat 6 cable that was working fine. I tried switching Ethernet ports on both the n and ac. The only hassle is trying to edit the n settings in Airport Utility as it will bump me out of edit mode. I did try restarting both routers. The status light on the n never changes from solid green. Is this a hardware or settings issue?
Plug a computer directly to the arris modem by ethernet..
You will never get speeds faster than this combo.
If the airport extreme is working as main router I am amazed you got the speed up to 700mbps as it is NOT gigabit router.. it has gigabit ports.. and will usually handle up to around 500Mbps .. no faster.

If they send service tech out with a tester that only goes to 750Mbps that tells me they expect to never reach gigabit.
Your test with a single computer plugged directly to the modem is the same thing.. if it reaches speeds of 700Mbps then that is your max speed. The ISP simply does not have the capacity to route faster than that to you and everyone else on your run who opted for gigabit.
If the computer does in fact reach full gigabit download speed.. (or full gigabit adding upload and download.. which is one way ISP can cheat with gigabit service). Then you need a much more powerful router.. the airport is not in the running.
Nor can you achieve gigabit actual throughput over wireless on an airport. You would need to buy the very latest AC3100 products with external 3100 receiver plugged into a port capable of that speed. No Mac is made with any wireless card greater than AC1300 (real world throughput on a good day.. around 600Mbps).

На Хабре появилась инструкция, как “перешить” свой AirPort Extreme/Time Сapsule, предназначенный для России (или Европы), в роутер, предназначенный для США.
Это позволит увеличить максимальную скорость интернета с 600 Мбис/с до 1300 Мбит/с. В устройствах есть региональные ограничения.
AirPort Extreme разработан на основе предварительных технических требований к стандарту IEEE 802.11ac. Поддержка функций 802.11ac зависит от законодательных требований, существующих в конкретной стране; каналы с шириной спектра 80 МГц и технология формирования луча недоступны в Российской Федерации, на Украине, в Кувейте, Беларуси, Морокко, Азербайджане, Казахстане и Египте. Максимальная теоретическая скорость передачи данных составляет 600 Мбит/с; фактическая скорость будет ниже.
1. Нам потребуется python 2.7 (на mac OS X он уже предустановлен).
2. Качаем утилиту AirPyrt.
3. Открываем Терминал и вводим “python setup.py install”.
4. Далее включим ssh на нашем устройстве этими командами: “python -m acp -t -p –setprop dbug 0x3000” и
“python -m acp -t -p –reboot”.
5. Подключаемся по ssh: “ssh [email protected]”.
6. Далее нам необходимо будет заменить всего две вещи: код страны и SKU. Для замены страны на USA вводим команды “acp -q syRe=0x00000000” и “acp static apple-sku=FCC”.
7. После этого отключаемся от ssh и перезагружаем устройство командой “python -m acp -t -p –reboot”.
8. Для отключения ssh вводим “python -m acp -t -p –setprop dbug 0x0000” и “python -m acp -t -p –reboot”.
На некоторых прошивках для отключения ssh необходимо в сессии ssh выполнить “acp remove dbug” и “reboot”.
Собственно, это всё. Теперь ваш AirPort будет работать со скоростью 1300 Мбит/с. Не за что 😉
