i recently bought a lenovo laptop (c340), however i cannot install the proprietary drivers as the support site does not indicate any for any LInux (see: https://www.amd.com/en/support/apu/amd-ryzen-processors/amd-ryzen-5-mobile-processors-radeon-vega-gr. )

See if anyone else has found a way to install the AMD integrated Graphics for the Rzyen 5 3500U APU using Linux in a laptop.

Have you tried to see if AMDGPU or AMDGPU-PRO driver for Linux works?

I installed AMDGPU, still not working though

I bought a Lenovo Ideapad S340 (Ryzen 5 3500U using Vega 8 integrated graphic).
I was able to successfully install Mint 19.2 using amdgpu drivers and kernel 5.
Having a generic open source gpu driver, I am pretty much sure that my system is not taking advantage of the full power of the integrated graphic card. Neverthless the system is usable and I don’t have any issues except, sometimes, with very gpu intensive apps.

I would also suggest you to update the BIOS of your motherboard, which I did using the preinstalled windows OS before trying to install Mint:

It’s a fail for AMD that doesn’t have any Linux propertary driver, more knowing AMD is one of the openSUSE’s project sponsor.

I use openSUSE TW, the open source driver works, but to me, is not enough: I have AMD/Nvidia (AMD Ryzen 5 2500U with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx with Nvidia Geforce GTX1050) and I’d like the same performance as in Windows: PowerXpress/Optimus technology but in Linux. My results: Using ONLY the Nvidia dGPU which drains too fast the battery (1% per minute)..

I run Manjaro 5.6 on ASUS RYZEN 5 3500U laptop. The drivers for these mobile CPU will apparently not become available until kernel 5.7

This means that AMD laptops will have to wait for Linux drivers towards the next cycle for release of Linux Kernel. I suggest to install a Arch like self updating bistro and wait for the new kernels to appear.

My main issue is the automatic rotation of screen since no sensors are detected for lack of drivers.

I would like to share my workaround for a freezing problem during boot time which relates to this issue.
I’m using a hard drive encryption for an extra layer of privacy protection (LVM on LUKS).

As previously correctly commented there are no official proprietary drivers for this APU.
Installing AMDPRO-PRO Drivers had no success.
Due to the hard drive encryption, grub can not load the graphics drivers from the drive.
This is needed to show those nice graphics and animation during boot time (splash screen, etc.)
I had to slightly configure the files /etc/default/grub and /etc/modules with sudo

It might sound confusing but using the preinstalled NVIDIA drivers proved for me to be sufficient.
I’m using my notebook for programming and education purposes only. No graphics-heavy applications.
I highly doubt that this setting will satisfy gaming needs..

AMD Ryzen™ 5 3500U + linux

Подскажите как ведёт себя AMD Ryzen™ 5 3500U в linux, видяхя при нём AMD Radeon™ RX Vega 8. Стоит ли на нём взять ноут?

Или лучше на i5-8265U с видяхой Intel® UHD Graphics 620 ?

На ноутах уже же 10xx и 9xxx поколения штеуда ходили, да и вообще:

Пару дней назад приобрел ноут с 3550h, пока разбирался с битой флешкой и неработающим wifi на контроллере rtl8821ce проблем с cpu не увидел. На выходных надеюсь все настрою и через недельку-другую отпишусь на LOR’е.

Старые дистрибутивы (Ubuntu LTS, Centos 7, вот это всё) будут иметь нереальные проблемы. В свежих уже всё нормально из коробки и надо смотреть на другие особенности аппаратной платформы.

А вообще, во многих магазинах разрешают загрузиться с LiveUSB.

А что проверить нужно если с liveUSB загружусь? Чего для этого использовать из программных средств?

Возьми самую свежую убунту/федору (либо другю систему с LiveCD) на флешку и проверить работопоспобность Wi-Fi, регулировку яркости экрана/громкости, работы функционалных клавиш.

Intel гарантированно будет работать нормально.

Ну так вся разница во видео-встройке, на которую кривые швабодные дрова.

На совсем новом ноуте или мат.плате с высокой вероятностью wi-fi или звук работать не будут, потому как еще не успели завезти драйверы/патчи в ядро, возможно прямо сейчас где-то на github есть все нужное. Как у меня получилось с wi-fi на rtl8821ce. Это лучше заранее проверить, надо гуглить наименования контроллеров, а их именования узнавать из обзоров на всяких notebookcheck.

Флешку надо брать чтоб проверить загрузится или нет, а если нету на ноуте OS то еще чтоб оценить дисплей (отсутствие мертвых пикселов, равномерность подсветки, общее качество).
Я кстати так и проверял ноут в магазине, о чем договорился заранее , еще при заказе доставки, и я бы его точно не взял если бы он просто намертво завис во время моих тестов.

По поводу функциональных клавиш, а нужны драйверы и поддержка со стороны ОС? Мне казалось что ноут перехватывает управляющие события посланные через клавишу fn, такие как выключение подсветки клавиатуры, яркости экрана и пр.

А что проверить нужно если с liveUSB загружусь?

Запиши на флешку образ Manjaro KDE, загрузись с него. Если всё нормально загрузилось, если работают эффекты рабочего стола — скорее всего, всё ок.

В Manjaro очень свежее ядро, поэтому лучше брать его.

Да что вам всем так недовидеокарты вперлись? Бери с дискреткой, будь мужиком.

Так интегрированная будет в любом случае.

AMD 5 3500U drivers

I searched for the Linux AMd 5 3500 U drivers but didn’t get them I am using open source drivers. I feel the performance will be much better with AMD drivers.
Please suggest.

I suggest you change to a supported kernel. Open Update Manager. Select View > Linux Kernels and click Continue. Make sure 5.8 is selected on the left panel and then click the top-most option on the right panel. An «Install» button will appear. Install the kernel and then reboot for it to become active.

In addition, you might want to consider removing the PPA. The mesa package was updated within the last week and will provide you with a newer version.
