I have a question. JetBrains Toolbox seems really insistent on keeping itself installed in ~/.local/share/JetBrains/Toolbox for some reason. Even if I turn off the «Update Toolbox App automatocally» checkbox in the settings, it keeps a copy of the binary in ~/.local/share/JetBrains/Toolbox/bin/jetbrains-toolbox and also attempts to update the Desktop Entry in ~/.local/share/applications to point to this binary instead of the one in /opt/jetbrains-toolbox.

This, of course defeats the purpose of this AUR package, since the binary in ~/.local/share doesn’t get updated with it. How do you guys manage this issue? I’ve currently tried symlinking both the binary and Desktop Entry in ~/.local/share/ to the ones provided by the package. I’m hoping, Toolbox won’t overwrite them, if they already exist.

If this works, maybe these symlinks should be created by the PKGBUILD?

rizwan486 commented on 2019-07-12 08:41 (UTC)

There is a new version 1.15.5605, Waiting for update.

ljrk commented on 2019-04-10 11:45 (UTC)

On wayland this needs to be run with -platform x11 since the AppImage doesn’t ship the wayland-egl plugin.

You have to kill all still running jetbrains-toolbox instances and then restart it. Then it works for me.

pschichtel commented on 2019-01-21 10:29 (UTC)

Can anyone confirm that the application icon is not working with this package?

freswa commented on 2018-07-23 22:05 (UTC)

No it does not. This package only contains the /opt/jetbrains-toolbox folder and the /usr/bin/jetbrains-toolbox file.

starkers commented on 2018-07-23 22:03 (UTC)

This installs /opt/JetBrains with 777 permissions..

I wonder if that’ll also fix the issue where the install directory can’t be changed. That still persists.

Edit: I mean the app install directory for IDEs. The Toolbox just crashes if I try to change that.

dynaxis commented on 2020-01-25 02:32 (UTC) (edited on 2020-01-25 02:33 (UTC) by dynaxis)

In the desktop file, the Exec entry must have %u at the end like the below:

Exec=/opt/jetbrains-toolbox/jetbrains-toolbox %u

Otherwise login doesn’t work. Also I’m having trouble in making Wayland backend default. So if possible, prefixing the Exec entry w/ env QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb would be really appreciated. JetBrains Toolbox app doesn’t work natively under Wayland.

Anyway we’d better to have %u at least to make login work.

not_kv commented on 2019-12-28 09:36 (UTC)

did anyone find a workaround to fix the directory path from /usr/share ? still crashing

ilovesusu commented on 2019-12-04 09:41 (UTC)

Goland downloaded via toolbox cannot use fcitx, but installed via aur can use fcitx, I don’t know what happened

cwrau commented on 2019-11-05 13:10 (UTC)

The quotes in the .desktop file prevent the jetbrains:// urls to be opened

Works with the following patch:

@wizonesolutions: Same problem here. To rule out any AUR issue i also downloaded toolbox directly from jetbrains site. Shows the same problem - Segfault as soon as you want to set the installation path.

Opening the file manager in KDE Plasma (to set the shell script location or change where apps get installed) seems to crash Toolbox. Wondering if anyone has a workaround.

Gnome is not showing the icon for the application launcher. I solved this by creating a link to the svg in /usr/share/pixmaps and then changing the line in the desktop file to "Icon=jetbrains-toolbox". Maybe this could be changed? The discord package also does it like this.

In short, jetbrains-toolbox-fix existed for people who use AppImageLauncher to manage AppImages. If you read the pinned comment at: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/jetbrains-toolbox-fix/, it explains everything.

However, since version 1.20.xxxx , the original toolbox application from jetbrains, now includes the "fix", which now makes the package unnecessary.

LiterallyJohnny commented on 2021-02-10 14:16 (UTC) (edited on 2021-02-10 14:23 (UTC) by LiterallyJohnny)

Also, I forgot to mention that Jetbrains Toolbox takes a ton of RAM. It's taking around 200-300MB RAM when it's running in the background. I have it set to autostart when KDE Plasma starts. Is this normal?

LiterallyJohnny commented on 2021-02-10 14:15 (UTC)

I'm not entirely sure how Arch repos work, but will this package ever make it to the official repos? Also, what's the difference between jetbrains-toolbox (this package) and jetbrains-toolbox-fix ? Both are on the AUR.

j.r commented on 2021-01-21 22:20 (UTC)

@nmaggioni this did work although I had to reinstall the package, because toolbox disappeared after removing the file.

nmaggioni commented on 2021-01-21 10:15 (UTC)

@j.r Try to delete ~/.local/share/JetBrains/Toolbox/bin/jetbrains-toolbox and restart the Toolbox. I suspect it has to do with update caching, some more experimenting would be needed.

j.r commented on 2021-01-09 11:45 (UTC) (edited on 2021-01-09 11:45 (UTC) by j.r)

Toolbox constantly tells me that it's on version 1.18.7609 and wants to update, although this package seems like it downloads the latest version. what could I do to fix it?

aspen commented on 2020-11-05 21:30 (UTC)

xdg-utils and nss should be added to dependencies.

nss because: ❯ jetbrains-toolbox ./jetbrains-toolbox: error while loading shared libraries: libnss3.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Worked fine before, but suddenly broken with
