How to Install kdeconnect-git (Full Instructions) on Arch Linux, Manjaro and ArcoLinux

«Adds communication between KDE and your smartphone» is their outline of kdeconnect-git . To install or uninstall kdeconnect-git from AUR (Arch User Repository) on Arch Linux and Arch-based distributions (e.g. Manjaro, EndeavourOS, Artix, Anarchy) is rather uncomplicated. This guide will taught you how to install/update/uninstall the package with either the default package manager pacman or an AUR helper like yay .

Table of Contents

Two typical ways are used to install kdeconnect-git from AUR. pacman is the way to go if you’re a seasoned Linux user and know the concept of how packages are built. Otherwise, yay is a convenient alternative to install packages without the prerequisite to review PKGBUILD and build packages with makepkg by yourself.

sudo pacman -S --needed git && git clone https://aur.archlinux.org/kdeconnect-git.git && cd kdeconnect-git && makepkg -si
  1. Install git if it is not on your system.
  2. clone the package’s git repository from upstream URL.
  3. cd into the folder.
  4. Build the package with makepkg , then install it with pacman .
yay -S kdeconnect-git

Just like installing AUR packages, updating them is fairly the same. All you have to do is pull it from AUR then re-build it. Nonetheless, it is still recommended to upgrade your whole system first with sudo pacman -Syu before updating any packages to avoid dependency issues, since Arch is a rolling-release Linux distribution.

git pull && makepkg -si
  1. pull from the package’s git repository.
  2. Use makepkg to build the package. Also, it will automatically be updated with pacman afterwards.

Uninstalling packages is the easiest of these three, all you need to do is choose whether to purge the unused dependencies and the configuration files used by the package.

sudo pacman -R kdeconnect-git
sudo pacman -Rs kdeconnect-git
sudo pacman -Rns kdeconnect-git

yay ‘s removing command is just a pacman wrapper, executing with the same parameters will do the trick:

yay -R kdeconnect-git
yay -Rs kdeconnect-git
yay -Rns kdeconnect-git

Learn more details about how to build AUR packages or how to get yay , please refer to this guide published on NoCache.

Installing errut (Complete Tutorial) on Arch Linux (Manjaro, Anarchy)

Based on errut’s own definition, it is «Set of simple error handling utilities in C++.». To install errut from AUR (Arch User Repository) on Arch Linux, Manjaro, EndeavourOS, ArcoLinux, Parabola, RebornOS and Garuda is rather uncomplicated. This tutorial will be covering how to install, update and uninstall the package with either the built-in package manager pacman or an AUR helper like yay.

lightdm-devel Install (Update/Remove) Tutorial on Arch Linux/Manjaro/Anarchy

«A lightweight display manager» is their gist of lightdm-devel. To get lightdm-devel from AUR (Arch User Repository) on Arch Linux and Arch-based distros (e.g. Manjaro, EndeavourOS, Parabola, ArcoLinux, Artix, Anarchy) is comparatively uncomplicated. This guide will taught you how to install/update/uninstall the package with either the built-in package manager pacman or an AUR helper (e.g. yay).

The Simplest Tutorial on Installing exim-lookup-pgsql on Arch Linux (Manjaro, ArcoLinux)

«Message Transfer Agent with maximal-enabled features» is their description of exim-lookup-pgsql. To install exim-lookup-pgsql from AUR (Arch User Repository) on Arch Linux, Manjaro, EndeavourOS, RebornOS and ArcoLinux is quite straightforward. This tutorial will cover how to install/update/remove the package with either the built-in package manager pacman or an AUR helper (e.g. yay).

Installing php81-gd with One Line of Command on Arch Linux, Manjaro and Anarchy

Quoting from php81-gd’s own description, it is «gd module for php81». To get this package (php81-gd) from AUR (Arch User Repository) on Arch Linux, Manjaro, EndeavourOS, Parabola, RebornOS, Artix and Garuda is rather easy. This tutorial will cover how to install/update/uninstall the package with either the built-in package manager pacman or an AUR helper like yay.

Installing vkquake2 with Command Line on Arch Linux/Manjaro/ArcoLinux

«id Software’s Quake 2 v3.21 with Vulkan support» is the developer’s outline of vkquake2. To install or remove this package (vkquake2) from AUR (Arch User Repository) on Arch Linux, Manjaro, EndeavourOS, BlackArch and Parabola is rather easy. This tutorial will be covering how to install, update and remove the package with either the default package manager pacman or an AUR helper like yay.

A Step-by-Step Tutorial on Installing fsport-mediavps on Arch Linux (Manjaro/RebornOS)

According to fsport-mediavps’s outline, it’s «Hi-res FreeSpace 1 resources for FSPort». To install or uninstall this package (fsport-mediavps) from AUR (Arch User Repository) on Arch Linux and Arch-based distros (e.g. Manjaro, EndeavourOS, Garuda, Parabola, ArcoLinux) is quite easy. This guide will cover how to install, update and uninstall the package with either the built-in package manager pacman or an AUR helper (e.g. yay).

Need to enable bluetooth in this package.

Starting with commit #77047268, it requires plasma-wayland-protocols to build

rhssk commented on 2021-11-06 16:31 (UTC)

Can you see them with kdeconnect from [extra]?

I have android kdeconnect 1.17.0 and this and I cannot see my devices in the app nor in the program.

Is seems some new changes were pushed with wayland support and pkgbuild isn’t working anymore @rhssk

requires qqc2-desktop-style as a make dependency I think

rhssk commented on 2020-05-21 18:11 (UTC)

Not sure that is the cause of your problem though. I got no segfaults even before that patch. Try snooping around in coredump

kdeconnect-sms is not working on a fresh Manjaro KDE install. I tried previous releases from 1.4 to 20.04.1 with the same segmentation fault.

@zwastik I already pushed the fix to kpeople-vcard-git. You will have to update it or remove it before installing kdeconnect-git. Bit of a mistake on my part, sorry.
