Arch Linux
As I’m reinstalling arch, I’m getting this error after I create my home user:
$ sudo -v . sudo: no tty present and no askpass program
I can’t use sudo at all under my home user. This is a pretty common problem, but out of the ~30 threads I’ve found on Google, none of the fixes suggested get rid of this error. I’m using the exact same scripts that I’ve used to install Arch 10+ times previously, and I’ve never had this error come up.
The only change I’ve done to the «/etc/sudoers» file is uncommenting:
Uncommenting this instead works:
%wheel ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: ALL
But I don’t want that for security reasons. «requiretty» is NOT set in «etc/sudoers». I only use `visudo` to edit this file. Also, `visudo` is running with «vim», if that matters:
My root password is set (with `passwd`), and I’m setting up my home user like this:
useradd -m -g users -G wheel,storage,power -s /bin/bash me passwd me
Like I said, I’m using the same method that’s worked many times before, but this time it isn’t. I’ve tried restarting the installation from scratch in case it was just a fluke, but the problem persists. Has there been a change in the way «wheel» works in a recent update of «sudo» or something? Do I need to install another package first? Could it be a problem from the arch iso I’m using? It’s the «2015.08.01» image.»
If anyone has any ideas, thanks in advance.

Arch Linux
I’ve done a new install that ‘m really happy with. Unfortunately, when I use the function keys to switch to a different TTY, none exist. I can get back to X on F7, but the usual TTY’s just don’t exist. Does anyone know whether this is a bug, or did something go amiss in the install?

Reasons why you may want to try GNU/Linux:

Re: [SOLVED] No TTY’s available after new install.
Maybe you have «Option «DontVTSwitch» set to yes in xorg.conf?

Re: [SOLVED] No TTY’s available after new install.
That sounds like a good place to start, but I didn’t create an xorg.conf. could it be somewhere else?

If you don’t have one, that shouldn’t be it. How do you start X?

Re: [SOLVED] No TTY’s available after new install.
I followed the install guide and it said you only needed an xorg.conf if you aren’t happy to have X automatically do your settings. I’ll check, but I’m sure I don’t have one.

Re: [SOLVED] No TTY’s available after new install.
That’s perfectly fine, what I meant was that if you don’t have an xorg.conf the error must be somewhere else. Maybe it has to do with login manager, and how it is started. I run gnome from .xinitrc/xinitab (with exec ck-launch-session gnome-session) and switching to tty works. You may also check initab if they are active, however there are by default.

My .xinitirc looks like this:

Re-read what V1del asked you to do — you have a typo.

Do you see the difference between what V1del told you to add, and what you actually added?

Thank you for showing me the differences!
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="loglevel=3 quiet" GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=nvidia-drm.modeset=1
maybe something to do with fn key of macbook, or screen resolution?
