Здравствуйте. Уже в который раз желаю перейти на линукс. Предыдущая попытка закончилась весьма плачевно. Поясняю.
Имею старенький ноутбук Acer Aspire 5542G с видеокартой ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570. Проблемы как раз с видео (со звуком правда тоже наблюдались, но из-за беды с видео — ушли на второй план). На сею видеокарту уже давно нет драйверов проприетарных, последние идут с таким вот сообщением: «Display Drivers for Xorg 6.9 to Xserver 1.12 and Kernel version up to 3.4», что само собой не годится вовсе. Проблемы со свободными драйверами следующие: 1 — в браузере и текстовых документах (видимо, везде, где есть текст) периодически пропадают целые строки этого самого текста, 2 — при выходе из гибернации — Ксорг вежливо прощается (не сразу правда, спустя секунд 10, но всегда). Оба бага крайне доставучие, жить с ними не смог.
Испробованы: Mint, Alt (в т.ч. и Simply), openSUSE. На последней xorg держался на секунд 15 дольше (после выхода из сна), но всё равно падал.
Что мне делать. Смириться и жить на винде? Копить на новый ноут?=Р

На glamor переключи ddx driver, через пару часов напишу как это сделать.
Вообщем в /etc/X11 создай файл xorg.conf вот с таким содержимым:

Ты в соседней теме спрашивал что может не работать. Чем не пример? Вот уже пошел шаманизм.
Оптимус уже официально поддерживается?

Finally upgraded to Ubuntu 14.04, but I’m not sure my graphics card driver was installed properly. I installed the System76 driver following instructions found at http://knowledge76.com/index.php/Version_Upgrade but I don’t see any evidence of a graphics driver installation. Nothing comes up under when running ‘Additional Drivers.’ Is there a way I can check to see if I have the driver installed?

I do not have a System 76 machine but I do know that Additional Drivers does need to be allowed time to work. You can also try either or both of these commands. Again we must wait for the commands to work.
ubuntu-drivers list ubuntu-drivers devices
If the system76 driver is in the list then in should be installed. You could also try running the install system76-driver command again. The terminal should tell you if you already have it installed. If it is installed then it will be activated.

One other thing; the instructions state that you must reboot your computer for the drivers to complete installation. I can confirm that this is the case; my NVIDIA drivers did not take effect until after I shut completely down and did a cold boot. If you haven’t done this yet, it is definitely worth a try.
