As per the subject, can you offer any recommendations on a good printer to purchase that works well with linux mint 17?

I go to Amazon and check the reviews. If any review(s) says it works with Ubuntu or Debain, it probably will work fine under Linux Mint.
My experience when new devices pop up on the market. Many devices come with window OS drivers only. It takes a few months for linux drivers to float on the internet. It takes a few months more for these drivers to work their
ways into linux distros. Thus, go for devices that has been around 1/2 year or longer.

I’ve never owned a laser printer, only inkjets. But I have always had good luck with HPs. They are well supported with the HPLIP drivers, which are installed in Mint by default. Check for supported models here:

I’m using a HP Laser Jet Pro MFP M127fn with LM17.1, Cinnamon, 64 bit on a USB connection. Print, scan, and copy work fine — I’ve never even tried the fax, though. I did need to upgrade the HPLIP version to get HP Device Manager to work properly — see this post:

I followed the advice to search in amazon for reviews and also to check HP printers. I also checked the printer recommended by slipstick and it had mixed reviews on amazon.
Two printers stood out with good reviews, these are not all in one printers though:
— HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401n Monochrome Printer (CZ195A), this one doesnt have any reviews on amazon saying it works on linux however it is listed on the link below as a recommended printer for linux
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/recommended.html
— Brother HL-2270DW, some amazon reviewers posted that they got it working with linux mint, there is a file that one can run to do the install fairly easily

I will research the above more, thank you for the replies
