How do you get BitTorrent on Ubuntu?

I want to know if it is possible to get bittorrent for ubuntu. If yes, please answer. I tried searching for this but couldn’t find anything.

I searched for «ubuntu bittorrent» on Google and DuckDuckGo and this was the first link that came up on both:help.ubuntu.com/community/BitTorrent. A bit out of date, but it answers your question and has lots of links to Bittorrent clients, including the original.

you can use the transmission app that comes with Ubuntu(mine is version 20.04) it works same as bit-torrent on windows

There is a package qbittorrent

To install it run following commands:

sudo apt update sudo apt upgrade sudo apt install qbittorrent 

Now to run through Terminal just type : qbittorrent and it will start working.

In many versions of Ubuntu, Transmission is pre-installed. It works in the same way.

BitTorrent is a protocol supporting the practice of peer-to-peer file sharing that is used to distribute large amounts of data over the Internet.

Since 2006, bittorrent sharing has been the primary means for users to trade software, music, movies, and digital books online. Torrents are very unpopular with the MPAA, the RIAA, and other copyright authorities, but are much beloved by millions of college and university students around the planet.

Today i am going to Show you How to Install BitTorrent in Kali Linux ?

open terminal and enter the following command

[email protected]:~# apt-get install qbittorrent

it will ask you, Do you want to Continue then press Y for yes. Now type the

[email protected]:~# qbittorrent then accept the agreement.

now it will open your torrent client

Go to Applications > System Tools > Preferences > Select the Main Menu. Now choose the New Item. in the Name Column enter Bittorent and in the command enter the qbittorrent and press OK.

Now qbittorrent is available in the Application menu. Enjoy torrent in kali.

Though file sharing is extremely widespread nowadays, it amazes me that lot of people still don’t know how to use a BitTorrent client or perhaps don’t know what to do with a ‘.torrent’ file. Just take a look at this data (Google Trends):

Because of this, I decided to make a quick and easy tutorial on how to start downloading files via BitTorrent in Linux. Windows and Mac users can also learn from this, as the concept is basically the same on any platform. But before that, I would like to give you a brief intro about BitTorrent taken from Wikipedia:

BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer file sharing protocol used to distribute large amounts of data. BitTorrent is one of the most common protocols for transferring large files, and by some estimates it accounts for about 35% of all traffic on the entire Internet. The initial distributor of the complete file or collection acts as the first seed. Each peer who downloads the data also uploads it to other peers, even after they have dismounted the original seed. Because of this, BitTorrent is extremely efficient. One seed is needed to begin spreading files between many users (peers). The addition of more seeds increases the likelihood of a successful connection exponentially.

Now that you have learned a little about BitTorrent, let’s get down to business.

The first thing that you have to do is download a BitTorrent client. If you are using Linux, there are tons of free and open source BitTorrent clients to choose from. And, if you are using the latest versions of popular distributions like Fedora or Ubuntu, a BitTorrent client is already included out-of-the-box. For this tutorial, let’s use Transmission on Ubuntu.

Now that you have a BitTorrent client, it’s time to get a ‘.torrent’ file. We can use popular BitTorrent search engines (a.k.a. tracker) like isoHunt to get what we want. As an example, let’s go to isoHunt and download the free and open source short movie Elephants Dream. Note: We do not encourage downloading copyrighted materials.

Suppose you like to get the first search result, just click on it to go to its download page.

Click on ‘Download .torrent’ then open it with Transmission.

You can set the destination folder or just use the default and click on ‘Add’. After that, the download will start…

The more peers or seeders you have, the faster the download. If the download is interrupted, it can be resumed anytime.

I guess those are the basics to get you started downloading files via BitTorrent.

Установка qBittorrent в Ubuntu

qBittorrent — это один из самых популярных свободных торрент клиентов с открытым исходным кодом для Linux. Программа поддерживает такие платформы, как Linux, Windows, MacOS и FreeBSD. Интерфейс программы напоминает uTorrent, зато здесь нет рекламы и поддерживаются такие BitTorrent расширения как DHT, peer exchange и полное шифрование. Кроме того, программой можно пользоваться через веб-интерфейс удаленно.

С появлением скоростного интернета и различных стриминговых сервисов торренты теряют свою привлекательность, но они все ещё остаются актуальными для загрузки образов операционных систем. В этой статье мы разберемся как выполняется установка qBittorrent Ubuntu 18.04.

Установка qBittorrent на Ubuntu 18.04

Самый простой способ установить программу — использовать официальные репозитории. На данный момент там находится версия 4.0.3. Для установки достаточно выполнить:

sudo apt install qbittorrent

Затем вы можете найти программу в главном меню и запустить.

Если вы хотите более свежую версию, надо использовать PPA. Для добавления PPA от разработчиков выполните команду:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:qbittorrent-team/qbittorrent-stable

Список пакетов будет обновлен автоматически и вам надо будет только запустить команду установки:

sudo apt install qbittorrent

Этот репозиторий будет также работать и с более старыми версиями дистрибутива, например, Ubuntu 16.04 или 14.04, а также с более новыми. Если в вашей системе уже установлен qBittorrent, после добавления PPA можно просто обновить его вместе с системой.

Установка qBitTorrent на Ubuntu Server

Если вы хотите скачивать и раздавать торренты на сервере, то вы можете установить qBittorrent на без графического интерфейса и управлять им через веб-интерфейс. Подключитесь к вашему серверу и добавьте тот же PPA:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:qbittorrent-team/qbittorrent-stable

Затем установите версию без графического интерфейса, для этого к названию пакета добавьте опцию nox:

sudo apt install qbittorrent-nox

Создайте пользователя, от имени которого будет запускаться программа:

И осталось создать юнит файл systemd, чтобы система инициализации Ubuntu могла управлять работой программы:

sudo vi /etc/systemd/system/qbittorrent-nox.service

[Unit]
Description=qBittorrent Daemon Service
After=network.target
[Service]
Type=forking
User=qbtuser
ExecStart=/usr/bin/qbittorrent-nox -d
[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target

Сохраните изменения. Затем добавьте службу в автозагрузку и запустите её, но прежде надо попросить systemd перечитать изменения с диска:

sudo systemctl daemon-reload

sudo systemctl enable qbittorrent-nox
sudo systemctl start qbittorrent-nox

Веб-интерфейс qBittorrent

В графической версии веб-интерфейс по умолчанию отключен. Для его включения откройте Инструменты -> Настройки -> Веб-интерфейс и отметьте галочку Веб-интерфейс:

После этого он будет доступен по адресу ваш_ip:8080 например, на локальной машине:

По умолчанию имя пользователя admin, пароль: adminadmin.

Вы можете изменить пароль на той же вкладке в графической утилите или в веб интерфейсе, в настройках:

Как удалить qBitTorrent в Ubuntu

Чтобы удалить программу из своей системы достаточно выполнить:

sudo apt purge qbittorrent

Если вы устанавливали версию без графического интерфейса, то:

sudo apt purge qbittorrent

Затем останется отключить PPA через утилиту Программы и обновления и удалить дополнительные конфигурационные файлы, если вы их создавали.
