По традиции, на презентациях своих устройств, Apple ничего не говорит о технических характеристиках, ограничиваясь хвалебными заявлениями о том, что новые гаджеты стали мощнее и лучше.
После презентации новых iPhone и iPad купертинская компания неожиданно внесла изменения в список характеристик прошлогодних iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus и iPad Air 2, а именно в версию Bluetooth, которая была изменена с 4.0 на 4.2. Сейчас на сайте производителя указана версия Bluetooth 4.2 для всех устройств 2014 и 2015 годов.
Согласно данным с сайта Apple, Bluetooth версии 4.2 используется в iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6S, 6S Plus, iPod touch 6-го поколения, iPad Air 2, mini 4 и Pro. К преимуществам нового стандарта Bluetooth можно отнести 2,5-кратный прирост скорости по сравнению с предшественниками, а также возможность передавать файлы в 10 раз большего объема, уменьшение энергопотребления, большую безопасность и конфиденциальность.
Скорее всего, поддержка Bluetooth нового стандарта была реализована программно с помощью обновленной версии ОС. До этого более ранние версии Bluetooth не могли модернизироваться с помощью программного обеспечения, но в случае с Bluetooth 4.0 некоторые производители выпускали обновления программного обеспечения для поддержки Bluetooth 4.1.
При этом в некоторых отчётах говорится, что поддержка работы на больших скоростях в Bluetooth 4.2 достигается использованием обновленного оборудования, поэтому не совсем ясно, как это реализовали в Apple.
