Help getting Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse 3600 working

Post by Statik » Wed Sep 07, 2016 11:48 am

Hi all,
I’ve searched the forums and the Internet and I haven’t found a solution to this. I have a Microsoft 3600 Bluetooth mouse that I cannot seem to get to connect to Linux reliably as a mouse.

The instructions I follow say to do the following:

# bluetoothctl [bluetooth]# list Controller BlueZ 5.5 [default] [bluetooth]# select [bluetooth]# power on [bluetooth]# scan on [bluetooth]# agent on [bluetooth]# devices Device Name: Bluetooth Mouse [bluetooth]# pair [bluetooth]# trust [bluetooth]# connect

I have the mouse in pairing mode at the start of this process, and I’ve tried starting pairing mode in the middle, after agent on, as well. The pairing, trusting and connection all report success but the mouse keeps flashing as if in pair mode. If I power the mouse off and then back on, it will not connect either.

I have had it connect successfully ONCE and work after reboots as well, but I tried to get it working in Windows as well, and I cannot pair it twice. So, I’m trying to get it working in Linux again. It never seems to connect as a mouse.

I managed to get it working again. Here’s what I did:
DO NOT use the bluetooth tray applet. From a fresh start, use the bluetoothctl sequence I posted earlier. You should get a successful connection, without a flashing pair light on the mouse, but no usability as a mouse.
Now use the bluetooth tray applet. You should see the mouse as unconnected. Click on it and click the remove device button. Then click on the Not Setup indicator in the applet. The mouse will setup again, with the same settings as before, but it will be recognized as a USB HID.

There are instructions on the bluez.org website on creating the udev rules and such to have the mouse be recognized after reboots.

Not sure why its like that, but that’s what I’ve discovered so far.

Bluetooth mouse paring in Linux Mint Cinnamon

I’m having an hard time trying to pair my Apple magic mouse on Mint Cinnamon. keyboard pairing was fast and dead simple, but due to a weird behavior in the gui I’m not able to enter the code for pairing my mouse!! Basically once the mouse is discoverede by the OS, it shows a notification with an input field for enter the code, BUT as soon I start typing into it the notification is dismissed. WTF?! How can I pair my mouse if I can’t type the code? (I installed bluez-tools in order to try the pairing from the command line, but the problem is the same, ’cause in the end it still invokes the OS notification for the user input :()

18.3 new install bluetooth mouse and keyboard issues

Post by jwrober » Thu Dec 21, 2017 1:09 pm

I am new to the forum, but not to Linux. However, new to Linux Mint. Great platform, love the simplicity. I have an issue connection my MS Surface BT Keyboard and MS Arc BT Mouse to my instance.

I am running on a HP laptop and the BT controller is intel. I installed the Intel microcode using the app after install and have rebooted. I have fully patched the system with apt-get dist-upgrade, so I am at latest and greatest code too.

The same «AuthenticationTimeout» occurs on the mouse as well. I found some articles on other forums that if these two devices were connected to a Windows instance on the same device that they won’t pair. I do have this situation. I am dual booting Win10 and LM on the same laptop. So I did try and disconnect/remove the two BT devices from the windows instance and am still getting the same error.

When I attempt to do the «pair» type work in the bluetooth app in the GUI instead of command line I get really nothing back. The application will find the devices just the same but when I attempt to connect to them nothing happens.

I have also tried issuing «agent on» and «default-agent» in the bluetoothctl tool to no avail. For whatever reason, BT won’t prompt for me to enter the pairing code on the keyboard.
