Bluetooth pairing between iPhone and Mac Mini M1 «not supported»
Hi. I’m unable to connect my iPhone (iOS 15.1) to my Mac Mini M1 (MacOS 12.0.1). The initial pairing seems to work as the code verification pops up on both the iPhone and the Mac, however it never actually connects and I get the following message:
«Name of my device» is not supported.
Has anyone run into same issue?

MacOS 12.1 Monterey update breaks bluetooth connectivity I had previously installed MacOS 12.0.1 Monterey on a 960Gb Corsair SSD installed in my Mac mini 2014 and everything was great! Then after updating to MacOS 12.1 Monterey I cannot connect to my iPhone SE 2020 with bluetooth anymore, immediately after pairing MacOS disconnects and while both iPhone and my Mac seem to recognize one and other they won’t connect, even after deleting com.apple bluetooth plist, or even the entire bluetooth preferences folder, restarting, etc. The same thing every time I get the pairing number code sent to my phone, click Yes and bluetooth connects for less than a second then disconnects and a message pops up on my phone reading my Mac mini isn’t supported. Everything worked fine with initial release Monterey MacOS 12.0.1 so something with the update has made my ability to work productively sharing files and photos via airdrop to and from my iphone impossible. Meanwhile my slightly older 2017 iPad can still connect. Tried forget/delete all devices nothing helps even my iPhone is the only device shown in Bluetooth preferences. Not that it should matter because it’s pretty bad if you have to select only one connection at a time and remove all others, nobody has time for that Not good Apple PLEASE FIX IT.
bluetooth pairing fails of iPhones with iOS 15.1 and MacBooks with macOS 12.0.1 All the resets suggested by the community do not work. It seems a problem of software rather than hardware. Does someone know more from Apple?
I’m not sure it has anything to do with iCloud.
My iMac M1 will not connect to my iPad or iPhone nor will it allow my iMac to unlock using my Apple Watch. This all seems to have been a problem since the 12.1 update.
In the Bluetooth settings on the iMac I can pair the iPad and iPhone but both immediately go to ‘not connected’, if I then select ‘connect’ it shows connected for around 2 seconds and drops back to ‘not connected’. Clicking the option to unlock the iMac with my watch leaves it twirling for a while before becoming unchecked again. (The watch and the iPhone are paired with each other with no problems)
This is becoming frustrating.
This has nothing at all to do with iCloud, so please stop. It is strictly about BT. In fact the two are not even synonymous. Whoever is talking about iCloud is not understanding the issue. The issue is not about syncing. The issue is that the Mac (your flavor) will not pair/join/connect with your phone.
I use my phone paired with my Mac so I can make and receive calls using my Mac while at my desk and phone nearby.. CONNECTED WITH BLUETOOTH.
So this is the issue.. my phone will not connect anymore.. It worked just fine with Big Sur.
How to Connect Your iPhone to Your Mac via Bluetooth
Using Bluetooth, you can connect your iPhone to your Mac to sync iTunes wirelessly on both devices. Or you can do this to connect to a Personal Hotspot, which lets you share the cellular data connection of your iPhone or iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular) when you don’t have access to a Wi-Fi network.
Connect Your iPhone & Mac
To connect the iPhone and Mac, the smartphone and computer need to be close to each other. The closer the better.
On your iPhone:
Open the Settings app, select General, then choose Bluetooth. Select the slider to the On position.
On your Mac:
- Click the Bluetooth icon in the menubar at the top right of your screen. Or you can click the Apple menu in the top left corner of the screen.
- Select System Preferences and Bluetooth and you’ll see a list of Bluetooth items that you can connect to.
- Click the image of your iPhone and you’ll get a connection request from the smartphone.
- Choose Connect to make the connection.
Note that your Mac and iPhone may require a confirmation code the first time you attempt to connect. Follow the instructions and enter the code exactly.
However — and your mileage may vary — occasionally my iMac and my iPhone XS Max seem to have trouble “finding” each other.
One advantage of using your iPhone and Mac in unison is that you can answer phone calls on your Mac, something I frequently do when working at the home office. Make sure both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network. From Settings on iOS, tap Phone, then Wi-Fi Calling, then turn the Wi-Fi Calling on This Phone toggle switch to on.
On your Mac, open FaceTime. You may be prompted to allow calls from your iPhone. If not, open the FaceTime menu and choose Preferences. Check the box marked Calls From iPhone.
Text Messages on Your Mac
Your Mac can also handle text messages. Make sure that you’re signed in to iCloud on both devices, with the right phone number registered). Then:
- Open Settings on your iPhone.
- Select Messages.
- Tap on Text Message Forwarding.
- Toggle the On/Off switch on the Mac you want to receive text messages.
Any new SMS or MMS text messages you receive on your iPhone will be forwarded to your Mac. You can also reply to these messages on your Mac.
