Boost wifi signal with Soft Drink Can
Almost all of us have problems with the weak wifi signal at our homes, shops and offices but there’s no effective solution to the problem and we keep trying different things to boost the wifi signal.
How to Boost wifi signal with a Soft Drink Can?
Today we learn how to boost wifi signal with a soft drink can.
Sometimes, we change our Routers spending few hundred dollars on a new one, sometimes we change the position of the routers and sometimes we try cleaning up our laptops and PCs or download wifi signal boosting apps on our tablets and smart phones
You will be surprised to know that there’s finally a solution to boost wifi signal which is proven, tested and effective and doesn’t cost you even a single penny as it is inside your home.
So let’s start exploring how to boost wifi signal with a soft drink can effectively?
By the time you end up reading this post you may have tried the same method.
Today, we are sharing a very effective and meaningful research conducted by a team of researchers led by Dartmouth College that has proved to solve the weak wifi signal problem inside the homes, closed spaces with multiple rooms and offices.
The research was presented on Nov. 8, 2017 ACM’s BuildSys 2017 in Delft, Netherlands that relies on a cheap 3-D reflector made out of plastic and a thin layer of metal that was developed using 3-D printing method.
The shape of the reflector can be customized based on where the users need strengthened signal the most.
The earlier research done in the same area of boosting wifi signal inside homes and offices had shown promising results by keeping an soft drink can made out of aluminium by a router significantly boosted wifi signal and further advancements in the same research had adjusted the shape and the direction of aluminum to identify the best shape for boosting the signal.
According to the new research the wifi signal can be boosted by spending $35 or even less on a customized 3-D printed reflector compared to a signal boosting router or antenna that costs few hundred to thousands of dollars.
It not only boosts the wifi signal but also makes more secure.
The research included an algorithm designed to optimize the shape of the 3-D reflector to target wireless coverage and the research team has also developed an approach to simulate how radio signals spread and interact with the surrounding objects and as it provides insightful information about hindrances that affect the wifi signal negatively.
The system is able to compute an optimized shape for the 3-D reflector based on the information about interior space, wireless access points within the space and the target area where the wifi signal needs to be boosted in about 23 minutes.
Researchers have found that reflector was able to decrease the strength of the wifi signal by up to 10 dB where it is not required and increase the strength by 6 dB where the users needed a boost in wifi signal.
The research has proved to be beneficial for boosting wifi signal as achieving improved wifi signal in targeted areas and locations has always been a challenge at low cost.
Tip: You can try keeping an empty coke or pepsi or any soft drink can by your router and boost wifi signal significantly. It works!
The above research was conducted jointly by the researchers from Dartmouth College, University of Washington, Columbia University, and UC Irvine.

This wikiHow teaches you how to use an empty beer or soda can to marginally increase your Wi-Fi range at home. Keep in mind that using a can to boost your Wi-Fi is unlikely to fix substantial Wi-Fi range issues, and it may actually limit your Wi-Fi’s range in one direction.
- This is unlikely to work if your preferred item is more than a few feet outside of your router’s Wi-Fi range.
- An empty, clean 500ml (16.9 fl oz) beer, soda, or otherwise aluminium can
- A Stanley knife or similar safety knife
- A pair of scissors strong enough to cut through thin metal, or a hacksaw
- A small piece of poster tack or similar adhesive
- This is easiest to do when your can is freshly empty rather than several hours (or days) old.
- You may want to leave the can upside-down on a paper towel to allow it to dry before you cut into it.
Remove the tab from the top of the can. This is most easily accomplished by pulling up on the tab, rotating it 180 degrees, and prying it up until it snaps off.
Create the base of the Wi-Fi booster. Cut almost all the way around what used to be the top of the can, making sure to leave around half an inch of the can attaching the top to the rest of the can. At this point, you can flip over the can; the former top will now serve as the can’s base.
- The cut should be positioned so that when you spread out the can’s sides, the base of the can is centered.
- Be careful when doing this—the edges of the can are sharp.
- If you notice any remaining residue inside of the can, scrub it out and then dry off the can before proceeding.
- If your router has an antenna, you should be able to thread the antenna through the drinking hole in the bottom of the base.
- If your router has no antenna, make sure that the can is behind the router, and that the router’s front (e.g., the part with the lights) is facing in the direction toward which you want to boost the signal.
Enjoy your boosted Wi-Fi. While the boost to your Wi-Fi will be fairly minimal, you may still notice a change in your Internet speed or consistency where you previously struggled.

It reflects a signal from the reflective side (inside of the can) to the antenna and vice versa, causing the signal from the antenna to go in one side. This almost doubles the signal going to the reflective side, while killing the signal on the other side.

How to Boost Your WiFi Signal Using A Beer Can
How to boost your Wi-Fi data connection speed by using a beer or a soda can
Wi-Fi speed. This is one concern that affects the best of us. Bad Internet speeds can be a real pain in the ass as they not only slow down your computer/laptop/smartphone, they are also a drain on the battery. Bad Internet speed also makes you cockeyed and leaves you frustrated. In comparison to wired networks, Wi-Fi networks can be a lifesaver like most advanced technologies, where the speeds are either equal or in some cases even faster. In comparison to wired networks, Wi-Fi networks can be a lifesaver like most advanced technologies, where the speeds are either equal or in some cases even faster. However, on the other hand, it can be incredibly irritating and time-consuming if your Wi-Fi signal is facing problems with poor loading times, or lost connections or if the network is moving at a snail’s pace.
However, while there are many ways to enhance your Wi-Fi connection, one of them is beer cans. Yes, you have heard it right though you can use a soda can if you are a teetotaller. It’s basically like adding foil to TV antennas, only for today’s Wi-Fi routers. All you need to do is just clean the can, remove the tab, cut out the bottom, create a base, slice up the side and attach it to your router. The metal in the can and the shape of the
All you need to do is find an empty beer or soda can, clean it, remove the tab, cut out the bottom, create a base, slice up the side and attach it to your router. The metal in the can and the shape of the can, when cut open can considerably increase the signals to and from your router. To achieve this, you need a beer or soda can, a pair of scissors, a utility knife, and some form of adhesive that can easily be removed like tape or adhesive putty.
Watch the video below to understand how it works :
You have watched the video. Now follow the 6 steps given below to make you Wi-Fi routers connect faster to the Internet.
Step 1: Clean out the can
Thoroughly rinse the beer or soda can with soap and warm water to get rid of any sticky substance or residue found that is normally found on the inside of the can. Once done, dry the can as much as possible.
Step 2: Pull off the tab
Remove the tab for the soda can, as it of no use. To remove the tab, simply bend the tab back and forth until you hear it snap.
Step 3: Cut off the bottom of the can
Using the utility knife, cut a straight, horizontal line around the bottom of the can at the point where the sides of the can start sloping to create the bottom. Cut very slowly to make sure a clean cut and to accidentally avoid cutting yourself. Safely dispose off the bottom, once it is completely removed to avoid accidentally stepping on it or grabbing it.
Step 4: Create the base for the can to freely stand on
The top of the can will be the base for your Wi-Fi extender. To create the base, firstly you need to turn the can upside down. Then, use your utility knife to make a cut horizontal cut that is similar to the one you made at the bottom of the can. However, ensure that you leave an inch or so of metal to keep everything in one piece.
Step 5: Cut the side of the can
Place the can so that the leftover piece of metal used to keep the base attached is opposite the location you intend to make a vertical incision in the can. Use the scissors to cut a straight line from the bottom of the can to the top. Then, open the can up to create something similar to the shape of a satellite dish. If the can is still wet at the point, see that the can is thoroughly dried before it is placed on the top of your router.
Step 6: Attach the can to your router
Using the hole in the base, place the can over the antenna for your Wi-Fi connection. To secure the can to your router, use tape or another easily removable adhesive such as adhesive putty. Then, adjust the can to maximize the signal.
Mainly, the can should be spread out, which is something similar to a sail around the router’s antenna. The antenna serves as a mast and the pop can helps the router function.
Voila, it’s done! You can enjoy a stronger and more dependable Wi-Fi signal. Now you can see a boost of upto 1.5x times your normal speed. The affect of the Beer can antenna can be felt especially if you have many rooms. Enjoy the enhanced data speeds and thank me later!
