By plugging this BrosTrend AC5L Linux WiFi adapter to any USB ports of your Linux desktop or laptop PC, you can get Wi-Fi speed of 433Mbps on 5GHz WiFi band or 200Mbps on 2.4GHz WiFi band . You can use the 5GHz Wireless band for lag-free gaming and HD streaming, and the 2.4GHz band for video calls and shopping online. Taking advantage of the latest 802.11 ac Wi-Fi technology, this USB WiFi adapter works with the latest AC Wi-Fi router, also backward compatible with the previous wireless-n routers.

Note:
-To get full 200Mbps wifi speed on 2.4GHz Wi-Fi with the wifi adapter, you have to make sure your existing wifi router / gateway supports 256 QAM modulation, and set up the 256 QAM modulation on it.

Installation

The following instructions install the appropriate drivers for the AC1L, AC3L, AC5L, AX1L and AX4L BrosTrend Wi-Fi adapters in any of the supported distributions. All the drivers and the installer are open source (GPL); you may get the code from here.

💡 Tip: Linux kernels (>= 6.2) include their own drivers for our AC1L/AC3L/AC5L adapters, so they work out of the box in recent distributions. But these drivers aren’t yet as mature as ours, so if you encounter any issues, use our installer to replace them.

Installation steps

Please note that an Internet connection is required at the time of installation, so as to be able to download the driver and its dependencies (dkms, linux-headers…). That means that you might have to use a wired connection (LAN cable) or mobile phone wifi-to-usb tethering.

We recommend to update and reboot your system before running our installer, to avoid some common issues like mismatched kernel headers or old http certificates.

After the system has booted, insert the Wi-Fi adapter into a USB slot.

Select all the following line and right click → copy it to the clipboard:

 sh -c 'wget linux.brostrend.com/install -O /tmp/install && sh /tmp/install'

Press Alt+F2 to invoke your distribution’s “Execute command” dialog, or open a terminal. Right click → paste the previous command in order to execute it. If it fails with “wget: command not found”, please try one of the alternative installation commands.

The installer requires root rights, so it will ask for your password. It will then automatically download, install and load the correct driver for your adapter. In some cases a reboot might be necessary.

If the installer reports an error, please copy all the text in the terminal and paste it in a mail to support@brostrend.com so that we can see what went wrong. Please also attach the auto-generated log file, /tmp/troubleshooting.txt.

If your distribution is based on Debian, our apt repository will be automatically added to your software sources, to provide automatic driver updates. For non-Debian distributions please re-run our installer whenever you need to update to our latest drivers.

im using Kali-Linux Kernal version 5.14.0 and god knows if it supports that BECAUSE THERE IS NO FRIGGING DOCUMENTATION FOR LINUX BROS TREND BE A BRO AND EMAIL ME with support please.

This one didn’t have the bad reviews, and for good reason. It’s fully supported! I didn’t even have to email back and forth with the support team. It was just

I like the performance of this once install is completed. my throughput is now 5 times faster than the adapter I had before.
What was a disappointment for me was it is not plug n play, especially on a linux platform. Linux users: read the description carefully. you do need to have an auxiliary internet connection to install the drivers for this. That is mentioned in the description but only in one line and far down in the text.
I bought this to improve connectivity for an elder person to improve his connectivity and had to hook up online with an old school modem to install the drivers on her linux box.
Overall I am pleased, I only now wonder if I will have to have to reinstall drivers whenever she lets her machine do updates on her linux system
