(Solved) My «CanoScan LiDE 300» scanner cannot be detected on Mint 19 «Tara» — Cinnamon (64-bit)

I think I asked my question in a wrong section: viewtopic.php?f=47&t=290399&view=unread . 0f6#unread
So I am asking the same question in this «Printers & Scanners» section.
I have bought CanoScan LiDE 300 and installed:
» ScanGear MP Ver. 3.70 for Linux (debian Packagearchive) «. However, «Simple Scan» says «No scanners detected» on host Mint although the scanner works fine on guest Windows. I have tried the methods mentioned on this page but to no avail. What should I do?

No, but you can try it for free and it will at least prove whether the scanner is working given it supports so many scanners.

Have you tried the Canon drivers (debian package for Mint)?

A few days ago, after ScanGear MP ( downloaded from Canon ) was installed, it did not appear on the application menu, so I could not find it. I just found it on Software Manager, and it has detected my scanner. My problem has been solved.

I wonder why ScanGear MP is absent below:

While most programs will add themselves to the menu the odd one doesn’t. You can add it manually by right clicking on the mint menu > configure > menu > open the menu editor.

If your problem is solved, go back to your original post, click edit and add [solved] to the subject title.

. when you double-click / open the .deb file in gdebi,
the Included files tab shows you the contents & what the installer does / does not.
It’s a very good idea to always examine,
what installers from external sources do or don’t before running them. that is,
no matter if talking about Canon, or a random small-time independent developer in the net.

Given that the name of the package itself was. scangearmp2_3.70-1_amd64.deb,
chances are i could even make a wild guess it would be /usr/bin/scangearmp2.
User-installed programs most of the times (but not always), go under that dir.
Read here as to why they usually go there.
that is, at least if the installer respects the standards.

. or after installation, you could open Synaptic, search for the name of the package you installed.
Eg. say for firefox, select it, Properties, Installed Files. & examine.

. or dpkg -L firefox | less
dpkg -L scangearmp2 | less
& examine (space to scroll. quit to exit)

. or sudo updatedb && locate firefox | less
sudo updatedb && locate scangearmp2 | less
& examine. (space to scroll. quit to exit)

. or (educated guess based on package’s original name. )
