CDC 40 Opera audio system- is it bluetooth capable?
I don’t know if anyone can help. I have a 58 plate Vectra with a CDC 40 Opera (with DAB) sound system, which is apparently made by Blaupunkt.
From various forums I have heard that the system is bluetooth capable, and may just need a software update to enable this. So I called Vauxhall, who didn’t seen to have a clue. I have tried to find a phone number for Blaupunkt, but can’t find one.
Does anyone know any more about it, and if it is just a software update, or if it needs any additional parts.
Comments
Definitely no bluetooth chip in CDC40, so no software upgrade is going to help. CDC 40 was introduced by Blaupunkt in 2001 — not many phones had bluetooth back then.
Your best bet would be to connect a Parrot bluetooth kit.
From what I have been told, the opera (DAB) version is the one that is bluetooth capable. I presume that this version came out long after 2001?
DAB was definitely available on the CDC40 from 2001/2002 as standard, at least in Germany — but there was an option to de-spec the CDC40 to a poverty pack (no DAB) for some regional markets (no DAB antenna, canbus software updated for no antenna, to save €8 per car).
Are there any bluetooth/handset buttons on your unit? How would you operate the bluetooth? And where is the microphone?
The one model up CDC 50 had a phone built in (with a sim card slot), then CDC 70(?) had satnav. No bluetooth.
The only phone-related thing on CDC 40 is the mute line-in connector to connect to an external bluetooth (eg. Parrot).
I had a Vectra on an 04 plate with the cdc40 in and that didnt have any mention of bluetooth in the menu system

DAB is not standard on the CDC 40, it is an optional extra.
There is also an auxillary imput available as an optional extra, which does connect a mobile phone through the CDC 40 system. The first person I spoke to at Vauxhall actually read out the details, saying that the phones contacts are displayed through the dash board display. As for the microphone, there is posssibly one above the rear view mirror, between the motion sensors. Or it may just use the phones own microphone.
Satnavs can also be connected to the auxillary socket.
After speaking to someone else it appears that the phone may also be able to be connected via a bluetooth module that plugs into the back of the stereo system.

Bluetooth options for CDC 40 Opera
I’ve a 2006 Vauxhall Vectra with a CDC 40 Opera fitted and I’m trying to make sense of the options for getting my phone linked to it via Bluetooth.
The forums have helped, but a lot of the options aren’t really what I’m after. I’ve a bluetooth headset that’s fine for calls and since I’m always wearing that while driving and the audio quality is excellent, I really don’t need the phone to link through the radio.
I’m mainly after a bluetooth connection to my phone for audio playback to be honest, to play podcasts and music, plus map directions from google maps.
From what I’ve read the factory bluetooth option for this radio is for phone calls only, and doesn’t support music playback, so that isn’t any good at all. I don’t believe the CDC 40 has an aux in option, and I prefer bluetooth anyway.
What I’m wondering after an evening of searching is whether something this would work?

It looks ideal, but I’ve no idea how the wiring in cars works, from my own searches I think those are the correct plugs to connect it, but I’d love a 2nd opinion 🙂

It looks as though it may use the DAB input to the CDC 40 but tbh I’m not sure. Have you considered a Bluetooth to FM thingy. technical name. Not as oe but some work really well.

Get a Parrot 9200.
That offers all the usual phone and phonebook connectivity whilst also allowing streaming music from your bluetooth phone and also offering a choice of alternative media inputs
