Fibre broadband postcode checker
Use our postcode checker to find out which of our broadband packages are available in your area.
What’s the best broadband in my area?
To find the best broadband deal for you, first check to see what’s available in your area by using a broadband postcode checker, like the one provided at the top of this page. This will tell you the types and speeds of broadband you can get – two things worth considering when finding the best broadband for your household, as well as thinking about your budget and daily internet usage.
When searching for the best broadband deals in my area, you might come across terms like ADSL, cable and fibre – these refer to the different technology types to deliver broadband service to your home.
ADSL:
Also known as standard broadband, Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) uses copper phone wires to deliver your broadband. Despite being the most commonly available, ADSL broadband is several times slower than average fibre networks.
Cable:
Cable broadband, on the other hand, uses coaxial cables (an upgrade from the traditional copper wires) to connect your home to a fibre cabinet. This type of connection offers ultrafast speeds and a much more reliable broadband service than ADSL.
Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC):
There are two types of fibre broadband – fibre-to-the-cabinet (FTTC) and fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP). Fibre-to-the-cabinet uses fibre optic cables from the telephone exchange to the local cabinet, then a copper wire connection to your home.
Fibre to the Premises (FTTP):
As the name suggests, fibre-to-the-premises uses fibre optic cables from the broadband exchange directly to your home. These broadband packages provide some of the fastest broadband speeds out there.
Over the next several years, Virgin Media will be upgrading its cable network to full fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) broadband using cutting-edge full-fibre technology.
What’s the fastest broadband speed in my area?
Having a fast broadband connection makes for a better, more smooth-running home when it comes to your devices. Again, this will depend on the types of broadband connection installed in your area. The range of broadband deals you can choose from and the speeds you can get differ from house-to-house, even when several properties share the same postcode. The best way to see what’s available where you live is to use a broadband postcode checker, like the one at the top of this page.
At Virgin Media, we offer a range of broadband speeds and packages, from our M125 fibre broadband, to our fastest Gig1 Fibre broadband, which provides average download speeds of 1,130Mbps (the most widely available gigabit broadband in the UK). That’s more speed to spread across your devices.
To learn more about our speeds, check out our broadband speeds page for a full breakdown.

FAQs
What broadband speed can I get in my area?
There are several factors that can affect your broadband speed, including where you live and the types of broadband technology available in your area. With standard broadband for example, how far you live from the nearest exchange can cause problems, as the signal slows the further it travels.
The easiest way to get an accurate picture of what broadband speeds are available to you, is to use a broadband postcode checker – you’ll notice ours sits at the top of most of our pages. Simply enter your postcode and we’ll tell you what broadband packages are available where you live.

iAnalyzeWifi — WiFi Analyzer 4+
I was looking for a program that would allow me to identify my WiFi network in a crowded downtown area full of other WiFi traffic. iAalyzeWiFi does just that, it finds and helps me compare my wireless network to others in a simple, easy to understand layout.
Developer: One thing that would be helpful when analyzing my signal to others would be the ability to click on your own network and highlight it temporarily. Otherwise, great app!
Developer Response ,
Thank you for the wonderful review & feedback, Appreciate it!
We have some better features in progress with some additional details to fine-tune your wireless network even better.
Performed Perfectly And As Advertised!
I needed to know why my home mesh (6 AP’s) wifi (2 & 5 Ghz) was sluggish. This tool showed me why — my neighbors had their wifi’s set on the same channels and we were blasting each other out of good coverage. The iAnalizeWiFi software showed me which channels were the most congested and which ones were the most available. A simple channel change on my home mesh wifi did the trick so no more devices randomly dropping off line. Good investment!!
Just what I needed
This tool has helped me out quite a bit. I normally make my own cables and wire in every device that I can, but am currently in a situation where my computer needs to be on Wifi. I can now watch and analyze where other local networks sit in the frequency spectrum. With that information, I have adjusted which channel/s I use and how much bandwidth I drop them down-to (to decrease noise). Totally love it.
