How to install Cisco Packet Tracer on Linux Debian 64 Bits (ParrotSec / Kali Linux)

I recently used Cisco Packet Tracer on Linux, it was version 6.2 and I had no problem, but I stopped needing it and removed it from my operating system.

Now that I have taken a course from Cisco, I am forced to install this software again, but I find version 7.0, I installed it in the same way as the previous version but at the time of starting it did not run, the Linux version that use isParrotSec,based on 64-bit Debian.

If you have this same problem, we will show you the solution to this annoying problem.

1.- The first thing is download Cisco Packet Tracer from this link(is the one that I downloaded).

2.- We will download a file with termination.gz,just right click and extract here, leave another compressed file and we will give again right clickand selectExtract here. Now we will have a folder with the name PacketTracer70.

Since the folder downloaded the guard at the address ofDownloads, the extracted folder is inDownloads / PacketTracer70

3.- To install we will open the terminaland log in as super user with the command

5.- To confirm that we are inside the folder we will write the command

And we will press the Enter key.

With this command we can see all the files that are inside the folder, with which we will work is with the fileinstall.

6.- To start the installation we will write the command

7.- The installation will begin, and ask us Do you accept the terms of the EULA? (Y) is / (N) or:here we will write the letterandthen press Enter.

8.- Ask the address to install Packet Tracer, (Enter location to install Cisco Packet Tracer or press enter for default (/ opt / pt) 🙂we just have to press the Enter key.

9.- Ask usShould we create a symbolic link «packettracer» in / usr / local / bin for easy Cisco Packet Tracer startup? (Yn):and we must write the letterandbefore pressing Enter.

10.- Now we will have the Packet Tracer installed, but if we want to start it we will notice that it does not start but does not throw an error.

11.- Before starting it, we must download the library from this page:Download Debian 64-bit library,we must click where the red arrow indicates to start the download.

12.- We will have a file calledlibssl1.0.0_1.0.1t-1 + deb8u7_amd64.debto install it we must be positioned in the terminal in the folder where we download it, for this we must write the command

This to exit the folderPacketTracer70 ,.

Since this is where the .deb file was saved.

13.- To install the files with .deb termination we must write the commandsudo dpkg -i (filename) .debfor this case the command be

14.- Let the installation finish and that’s it, if you want to start Packet Tracer we must look for the icon in the application drawer, or if you want to do it from the console just type

This program is very useful for creating network scenarios, too useful for students carrying the subjects of computer networks or switching and routing.

Decide to do the tutorial since some of us use Linux and it costs us a bit of work to run programs that depend on 32-bit libraries.
