Update 09/03/2023 : A new Cisco Packet Tracer 8.2.1 version has been released for download on Netacad website. This is a bugfix release fixing several bugs on accessibility, usability, and security of Packet Tracer 8.2. Cisco Packet Tracer 8.2 introduced a new command as well as bug fixing regarding incompatible DLLs that caused Packet Tracer crashes.

Update 24/06/2023 : GNS3 v2.2.40 has been released on June 06, 2023. This version changes log messages for Websocket errors and fixes hovered color shown in style editing dialog. Starting with v2.2.37, only macOS 11 and above is supported. GNS3 v3.0.0 alpha 3 has been released a few days ago on december 27, 2022. Cisco Packet Tracer 8.2 has been released in summer 2022 and is now available for download on Netacad website. Check Packet Tracer 8.2 new features. Packet tracer 8.2 adds a new OSPF command (show ip ospf interface brief) to the Packet Tracer 8.x serie, which added a new Packet Tracer Tutored Activities (PTTA) engine, as well as bug fixing and improvements on accessibility, usability, and security. The main new feature of Packet Tracer 8.x is the addition a new SDN Network Controller allowing emulated network programming through API exposed by Packet Tracer to the host. It is distributed as a debian package (.deb) for Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.

Cisco Packet Tracer 8.2 is created by Cisco Systems TM and is provided for free to everyone. Self learners are able to download Cisco Packet Tracer after registering on Cisco Netacad website. This is a major change in Cisco delivery policy for Packet Tracer as previous versions were only available for Netacad students and instructors.

GNS3 v2.2 new features

After several month of testing, GNS3 v2.2 has been released for download on September 30th, 2019.

Major new features of GNS3 v2.2 are :

• A new WebUi implementation of GNS3 (read only for now),
• A new GNS3 VM based on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. HyperV, KVM, VMware, VirtualBox GNS3 virtual machine images can be downloaded on GNS3 Github repository.

GNS3 v2.2.40 fixes the following GNS3 GUI and GNS3 server issues of GNS3 v2.2 and adds the following features :

• GNS3 GUI :
  • Change log messages for Websocket errors
  • Do not proceed if an appliance symbol cannot be downloaded.
  • Delete a node or link from topology summary view using Delete key.
  • Fix «Start the capture visualization program» checkbox works only one (first) time for a given link.
  • Let the selected link style applied when editing a link.
  • Fix hovered color shown in style editing dialog.
  • GNS 3 Server :
    • qemu : with network adapter_type equal to «virtio-net-pci», fix the speed to 10000 and duplex to full. The values are actually fake.
    • Parse name for request to node creation from template
    • Remove Xvfb + x11vnc support
    • Require a Host-Only Network to start the VirtualBox GNS3 VM on macOS with VirtualBox 7
    • Properly catch aiohttp client exception.

    Cisco NX-OSv 9000 appliance

    The NX-OSv 9000 is a virtual appliance designed to simulate the control plane of a Cisco Nexus 9000 switch. The NX-OSv 9000 shares the same software image running on Cisco Nexus 9000 hardware platform. Line card (LC) ASIC provisioning or any interaction from the control plane to rela switch ASICs are emulated by the NX-OSv 9000 software data plane.

    UCS PE (Platform Emulator) is a powerful Cisco UCS Manager emulator allowing CCNP datacenter students to learn how to configure the UCS environment. The current version emulates the UCS manager 4.2(2aPE1), which includes 62xx/63xx/64xx Fabric Interconnect, C4200 series rack server chassis with C125 rack servers, as well as Cisco UCS M6 and HX220C and HX240C servers support.
