Connect iphone to xcode wifi

iOS – Run/Debug/Install builds over Wi-Fi

We have iPad and iPhone devices, but short of wires. Is there any way that we can install/debug the builds over Wi-Fi in iOS? I know the way in Android, but not of iOS.

I am so surprised that more developers have not clamored for this. But I guess we sit on our arse and don’t need to care whether a cable is plugged in to our iDevice or not.

Now by using Xcode 9 and iOS 11 it is possible to run apps by using Wi-Fi.

Connect the iPhone via USB, go into the device window ( Cmd — Shift — 2 ), select your phone, and check the connect via network box.

Over Wi-Fi installing and debugging of applications is not possible in iOS.

But there are some websites where you can upload your builds and then download on device and test it.

2 yrs pass n still no. I wish they can add it, especially for my 12″ macbook which doesnt have usb port.

(Before you read make sure your running IOS 11 and Xcode 9!) Connect your device (Via USB), once you do go on ‘Add Additional Simulators’ (See image 2 at the bottom), and tick ‘connect via network’ (See Image One). Once XCode proccesses this, disconnect the device (via USB) and it should now appear with a globe next to it (See image 2)! Also make sure the device and computer are on the same network!

I don’t see that option. Is this only possible on an iOS 11 device? I’m currently installing one, so I’ll guess I’ll find out soon enough!

Simple Solution: http://diawi.com

Upto Xcode 8 & iOS 10 : Through wifi its not possible.

You just upload your «.ipa» file to this website http://diawi.com & get sort link for that. After that install build by requesting that link in iphone browser.

From Xcode 9+ & iOS 11+ : Its possible install debug build through wifi.

  1. Open your project on Xcode
  2. Connect your ios device with USB cable.
  3. In xcode menu open Window -> Devices and Simulators or press (Cmd-Shift-2) . You should see your device as connected devices.
  4. Select your device and enable check box “Connect via network”.
  5. Now you can see a network icon next to your phone name. This icon confirms that you can able to run build in wifi.
  6. Now run your build through wifi to install build in your ios devices.

Using Xcode 9 you can debug over wifi(same network).

Plug in your device, open Xcode, select Window > Devices and Simulators, select the device in the menu, and check «Connect via Network». Once it’s connected, a globe-like icon should appear next to the device in the menu.

Make sure you have at least Xcode 9 or later and a device with iOS 11 or later

It is not working, when i removed usb cable from laptop and tried to run, it is showing error as iphone not connected.

For deployment/CI I have tried and highly recommend BuddyBuild solution, here is some of the many features it has:

  1. Excellent user help (chat/email) system and online service.
  2. Supports webhooks so that a build is started whenever you push to your App repository. (All Git source control repos supported)
  3. You can arrange system to auto send your builds to a preset list of testers/users whenever builds are ready.
  4. You can [Auto] integrate their SDK to allow user feedback and crash reports.
  5. It auto checks your app for compatibility with latest Xcode versions.

To activate a Wireless Debugging for iOS device to Run | Debug | Install your builds over Wi-Fi, you need to take six steps:

  1. Connect a device via USB cable to the Mac with macOS 10.12.4+ and Xcode 9+ installed.
  2. Launch Xcode.
  3. Press Shift — Command — 2 or go to Window — Devices and Simulators menu.
  4. In the Devices tab select the devices from the Connected section.
  5. Select the Connect via network checkbox (and wait for a few minutes when it’s finished).
  6. Disconnect USB cable.

enter image description here

This Network icon in the left panel means – Wireless Debugging is OK .

enter image description here

On iPhone go to General – Device Management – Application to trust and press TRUST .

Now you can Run | Debug | Install your builds over Wi-Fi.

To do this, connect your iOS device to your Mac using the appropriate USB cable, and select the Window tab in the menu bar, open the Devices and Simulators window by selecting Devices and Simulators from the Window dropdown or Cmd + Shift + 2 .

Ensure that your device is selected in the list farthest to the left in the Devices and Simulators window. Check the Connect via network box.

enter image description here

If your device is on the same network as your Mac, you’ll see a globe appear next to your device’s name within a few moments. This indicates that your device is wirelessly connected.

You can now disconnect the USB cable connecting your device to your Mac, and build and run your app wirelessly.

Now you can click on your device name at the top it will open the a list of simulators and your currently connected devices Select the add additional simulators Make sure that you have selected the Devices tab not Simulator also if you have multiple devices connected to your Xcode at the same time make sure to select the device you want to be connected view network in the left pan first. Solution 1: Xcode and the GDB connection is quite temperamental.

IPhone can’t be detected in Xcode

Xcode and the GDB connection is quite temperamental. The device and your Mac can become unsynchronised with each other. My checklist for this sort of thing:

  1. Restart Xcode.
  2. Delete the .app from your iOS device, do a Clean then Rebuild.
  3. Disconnect, reconnect device.
  4. Restart iOS device (90% of the time it fixes things)
  5. If all else fails, restart your Mac (unlikely but it did fix an issue once for me).

Do you sign in with your dev account with xcode? Example image given below:

You can try also with network connection: https://i.stack.imgur.com/VLwMY.jpg

Finally, I figure it out how to solve it. I have two iPhones, one is running iOS 11.2.2. It can be detected in Xcode 9.2. Another one running iOS 11.2.6 can’t be detected in Xcode 9.2. I tried all the solutions above, it still not work. After I upgrade the iPhone running iOS 11.2.2 to iOS 11.2.6. When I connect this iPhone to Mac, Xcode take a little while on «preparing debugger support on iPhone». Then anything just works fine. All devices can be connected in Xcode 9.2. It seems some conflicts occur between two different devices running different iOS minor versions respectively.

Anyway, thanks to everyone who give me suggestions. Many THX.

  • Delete derived data
  • Disconnect the iPhone or Device which you are trying to installation of app.
  • Restart the Xcode.
  • Connect the Device
  • Clean + Build
  • Run the app.

Make sure you are using latest version of Xcode which is supporting the iOS 11.2.6.

IPhone not connected. Xcode will continue when iPhone is connected, plug in your iPhone. · Open Xcode · go to window -> Devices and Simulators · Right click on your device · click Unpair Device and unplug it.

Also you have to make sure that both your Computer and iPhone are both connected to the same network.

Now check the check mark for the Connect via Network Close the current window and remove the USB cable click on build it should build your project through network.

Note: Building through network very slow.

update: Please see the glob icon your looking for in the image below

So i guess i figured this out. This feature works from my home wifi but not if both of my devices are on my corporate network. Also, as khalid mentioned the installing of app when connected via wifi, is painfully slow compared to USB option. Maybe could use usb to transfer the application and then move to wifi to debug.

«Failed to prepare device for development.» with Xcode 13.2.1 and, Check /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/ for directory name 15.4 (your iOS version).

Xcode will continue when AppleTV is connected

This issue seems to be a hardware issue: I bought a new AppleTV, everything worked fine. At times though the connection gets lost. The troubleshooting for that is re-pair AppleTV and Mac. You probably will need to also restart the Mac as the UI does not always allow to unpair the connected devices.

X code «Connect via network» option programatically, I have several devices (iphone/ipad) connected to Xcode wirelessly. They remain connected for some time and then go to Disconnected state.

AppleTv is not connected : AppleTv will continue when Living Room is connected

I ran into this and found that leaving Xcode on the «is not connected» dialogue and turning the Apple TV off and on fixed it. (I have both my mac and AppleTV connected to the same switch via ethernet.)

I also have a factory-reset Apple TV with no PIN. It’s possible there’s some configuration that prevents this from working for you. Maybe a factory reset would fix it?

Edit: After developing with the Apple TV 4K UHD for a month, I have frequent issues like this, but not always the same. Usually I can’t connect and need to re-pair (even though it’s already paired). Sometimes pairing appears to succeed, but the device isn’t usable. Sometimes even restarting my mac and tvos fail to resolve the problem.

IPhone is not available. Please reconnect the device, If you’re still encountering the error, try to unpair the device within the menu Window > Devices and Simulators, clean Xcode, reconnect and

How to wirelessly connect Apple devices (iPad or iPhone) to Xcode without connecting the device to the Macbook using USB cable?

I want to wirelessly debug my app. How do I wirelessly connect my iPad to Xcode? It is required of me to connect my device to my Macbook using USB cable first, but my USB port is not working at all and it is impossible for me to do so. I looked everywhere on the web but cannot seem to get it working. Here is what I get when I go to Window -> Devices and Simulators: enter image description here I tried clicking on «+» at the bottom left to see if my iPad connected: enter image description here Is there a way for me to connect my device using IP address?

1 Answer 1

In the Xcode help documentation it states:

Before you can launch your app on a wireless device, you must pair the device with Xcode.

And then in the same documentation it gives instructions on how to pair the device where it states:

Connect the iOS device to your Mac with a lightning cable.

So, in short, in order to get wireless debugging to work you have to connect the device using a wire the first time.

AFTER you have paired the device with Xcode using a wire, you should see something like this (image taken from Apple’s help docs) in Devices and Simulators.

Once this pairing has taken place the device will show up in Devices and Simulators whether it is connected or not.

At this stage if the device does not connect automatically then there is a way to connect via ip address by right clicking on the device in Devices and Simulators:
