We were interested because our users needed something quick and easy to view dbf files and we did not want to use FoxPro. We had another utility that works on Windows 95 and NT but would not work on Windows 98. We tried using Excel but it would only read up to 65,536 records and some of the files they look at are larger than that. I had looked at another dbfviewer but it did not have all the functionality that yours has.

I do not use frequently databases, but in connection with a research project I got hold of a CD with a 30-meg DBF file on it — 74, 624 records, 23 fields, total of field widths 414 characters. At first I tried copying the file to the hard drive and reading it with Quattro Pro. This was possible, but it was slow, and pushed the program to an intolerable number of illegal mistakes leading to shutdown. So I went on the net and searched for DBF view programms, hit apycom. Com pretty soon, read the home page and decided Dbf Editor sounded useful and inexpensive, downloaded it, and have found it to be very serviceable. The program was easy to install, reads quickly from the CD-ROM drive, finds individual records reliably and quickly enough for my purposes, and in general seems like a tremendous bargain.

Для этого есть библиотека pxlib. Но лучший путь, как мне видится — это сделать дамп с помощью pxview и преобразовать во что-нибудь нормальное.

OpenOffice открывает, но мне необходимо как то подключать DBF для работы через sql запросы, либо в крайнем случае как то экспортировать dbf файлы в линуксе на mysql.

Неожиданно возникла потребность в работе с базой данных в формате dbf. Я с этим никогда не работал
Сижу на linux mint
Есть какой инструмент для работы? Там куча каталогов с какими-то еще файлами, их выходит просканировать нужно, чтобы все таблицы просмотреть.. Мне вообще нужно sql запрос выполнить, но сначала разобратся в структуре.

С dbf работают в основном FoxPro и 1С версия 7.7. Обратите внимание, вместе с dbf еще встречаются другие файлы, *.cdx — индексные файлы для таблиц *.dbf, также *.dbc и *.dcx — это сам контейнер БД. Если я угадал, то для работы с контейнером БД вам потребуется FoxPro, работает ли он под линукс, не представляю, но под виндой полет нормальный, пробуйте

*.dbf — это формат файлов dBase. Формат широко известный (описание можно найти в Инет). В разное время с ним работали dBase, Clipper, Code Base, FoxBase (потом FoxPro), Paradox (по совместительству с родным *.db). Если надо только читать/редактировать файлы, то для этого в Инете есть куча утилиток с названиями типа dbfView, dbfEdit, Dbu (это утилита Clipper). В настоящее время в основном используется (наряду с более новым XML) для передачи инфы между разными БД.

Смотреть структуру можно с пом. указанных мной средств, а вот SQL — да, не составить. Хотя если смотреть инфу только из одной таблицы (т.е. SQL без соединения таблиц), то там можно устанавливать фильтры и пользоваться поиском, что в некоторых случаях заменяет.
Если же из этих таблиц нужно грузить инфу в нормальную СУБД, то большинство оных имеют возможность связи с подобными источниками через ODBC. ODBC-драйверы для dbf имеются.
