Solution For Hang In Detecting Network When Installing Kali Linux

Hang When Detecting Network Installing Kali Linux — This problem happen when I trying to install Kali Linux ( all Kali version ) in my Lenovo G460, my notebook stuck in detecting network steps. Until this steps and problem happen we can’t to continue installing this penetration testing OS.

You’ll see nothing button which you can choose and press it. But I’ll give you an easy ways to bypass this little problem. This trick always work for me until this newest version.

When entering Kali boot options screen please Do not choose install or Graphical Install. Please choose Live to using Kali in live mode. Look at the picture :

Wait until finish booting process.Go to Application then System Tools. You’ll see Install Kali Linux menu icon in list menu. Select that to start installing Kali. Please look at picture for more details :

You’ll start to installing Kali. And when Detecting Network Hardware, stuck / freeze is not appear. Happy installing Kali into your machine without stuck in detecting network hardware

After you’ve finished installation process, maybe you should to install some application to support your work using Kali. Here I recommend some application to install to your Kali :

Detect network Hardware

Trying to install Kali linux?
But the window freezes after saying detect network hardware?
Like so :

1.First boot from live disc.(that is go to the installation bios and run kali linux live, don’t select install option)
2.After booting, go to SYSTEM> INSTALL KALI.
3.Follow the gui to install.
4.During installation, the system will prompt you to connect to internet using your wifi or ethernet connection,
provide the credentials, as this is very important for kali to connect with server and install GRUB at the end of the installation, If not it will throw a grub error.

This method worked perfectly with me, I hope it works the same for you. 🙂

I do not understand second booting. Is it reboot? and where is SYSTEM >KALI option. I do not find it. Help me. Can you load a video or image? Like Like

Just reboot your computer, and you will see the ‘boot from live disc’ it will be the first option.
Just select it and it will open up kali linux for you. Then click the top left icon ( i.e. the system) and then select Install kali linux. Like Like

Ok it is worked but ‘installing system’ finished and ask me root password. I enter the my password but does not accept. (I connected to the Internet(wireless)) Like Like

Detect network hardware

Is it because Kali Linux hasn’t been well installed on my external drive? What do I have to do?

The non-free firmawre isn’t included on the kernel

Download the missing firmware from here, copy it to your USB device the plug in your device and restart detection

Also you can skip this steps and install the iwlwifi later:

git clone https://github.com/OpenELEC/iwlwifi-firmware.git cd /iwlwifi-firmware/firmware cp iwlwifi-8000* /lib/firmware

When I tried to install Kali Linux, I encountered a little issue on its configuration. In Detect network hardware , it is indicated :

Some of your hardware needs non-free firmware files to operate. The firmware can be loaded from removable media, such as a USB stick or floppy. The missing firmware files are iwlwifi-8000C-21.ucode iwlwifi-8000C-20.ucode iwlwifi-8000C-19.ucode iwlwifi-8000C-18.ucode iwlwifi-8000C-17.ucode iwlwifi-8000C-16.ucode iwlwifi-8000C-15.ucode iwlwifi-8000C-14.ucode iwlwifi-8000C-13.ucode

Is it because Kali Linux hasn’t been well installed on my external drive? What do I have to do? P.S. So far the network configuration can’t be autoconfigure. The only way it works is if I configure it manually.

Issue Dual booting Kali, installer cannot detect network hardware

PC:
Lenovo Flex 15
network card: Intel Dual band AC 8265
CPU: i7-7500U Processor
512gbs SSD

I have seen many threads created about this issue, where the installer cannot identify the network card, due to missing firmware.
I have tested adding exit 0 to /bin/check-missing-firmware
I have added the firmware to the USB, yet the installer still doesn’t recognize the card
I have tried booting into the Live OS, and can connect to the internet from there.
I saw many people installing Kali from the live OS, but that option doesn’t seem to exist.
I am booting from a USB, set up with the dd command.
The installer cannot complete due to not being able to connect to a network.
Any and all help is appreciated!

That adapter seems very recent and probably requires a recent kernel. Give a try to the weekly image: https://cdimage.kali.org/kali-images/kali-weekly/

I will test this, and reply with my results
also in the case that anyone wants the log files, I am happy to go and find them

It is not required to have internet connection during installation. Installer wants to connect itself with internet so it is trying to detect your network hardware. If it is not detecting it, you should chose Do not configure at this time. You really don’t need internet at this time. Kali weekly image will give you the same error.
