Apple Classroom — Bluetooth 4.2 vs. 5.0 on an iPad

I am planning to purchase either a new iPad Air or iPad Pro 10.5, but am concerned about Bluetooth. For Apple Classroom to function student iPads need to be connected to the same wifi network and have Bluetooth turned on. However, I don’t really know what data is transmitted over wifi, and what is sent over Bluetooth — ie. I don’t know if the speed / data increases of Bluetooth 5.0 would benefit an iPad being used to control a large number of student iPads.

The class sizes I will use Apple Classroom for range from 15 to 50 students normally, with exams up to 150. As the number of devices gets so large, I just assumed that Bluetooth 5.0 may be very beneficial.

In summary: I want to chose the best iPad (iPad Air 3 or iPad Pro 10.5) for controlling large numbers of student iPads using Apple Classroom.

iPad Pro and Apple Classroom We’ve started using Apple Classroom v. 2.1 recently and we’re seeing some of the student iPads not receiving the Apple Classroom option in settings regardless of the iOS version. We are a BYOD school, but we do require that device to be iPad. We don’t dictate which model of iPad. Most of our students use current versions of iPad and a very small number use iPad Pros. It is those Pro models that have trouble with Apple Classrooms, specifically not seeing the Apple Classroom option in settings. The one Pro I have today is model MQDT2LL/A and I’ve confirmed that this iPad is on the latest iOS (11.2.5 as of today), it is connecting to the same WiFi network as the instructors and other students, and bluetooth is on. We’ve tried rebooting the device, turning on and off both bluetooth and Wifi, but nothing seems to work. At this point it appears to be a bug with iPad Pro.Can anyone lend some insight?Thanks in advance!

How to Connect an iPad to Bluetooth Devices

This wikiHow teaches you how to connect your iPad to a Bluetooth item, such as a car stereo or a speaker. The process of connecting two things by Bluetooth is called «pairing.»

• You can connect your iPad to Bluetooth devices by pairing them.
• To pair your device, navigate to your Bluetooth settings and activate Bluetooth.
• Turn on your Bluetooth device’s pairing mode and click the device’s name on your iPad when it appears.

Pairing a Device

Tap Bluetooth . You’ll find it near the top of the «Settings» column, which is on the left side of the screen. Doing so opens the Bluetooth page in the main section of the screen.

• While the maximum range for an iPad to connect to a Bluetooth item is around 30 feet (9 m), stay as close to the item as possible the first time you connect.

Usually, you will use your iPad as means to select the song (not the speaker). Songs will be played from your iPad if the speaker is connected to your iPad.

If your iPad is significantly newer than the Bluetooth item (or vice versa), the connection may not work.

You can connect to multiple Bluetooth items at once, though attempting to connect to two of the same type of item (e.g., two different speakers or a speaker and a headphone set) will not work.

Connecting to an unknown Bluetooth item can be dangerous and may allow others to access information stored on your iPad. Always check you are connecting to the correct item via Bluetooth before pairing your iPad with it.
