Dragon age inquisition linux

In continuing with my series demonstrating how to play Windows developed games on Linux using either Lutris or Steam Proton.

I am this time covering Dragon Age Origins, one of the better western RPGs to come out in recent years.

The game runs well enough but there are a few bugs, the first is that the game will not enable the sound or set graphical options, so these need to be set manually.

The second bug is that on loading a save, the mouse may not be focused so you need to alt tab to get it back, and the final bug is that switching windows will cause the game to force close.

And for people who prefer a written guide, see below the summary of the steps covered in the video.

FOR LUTRIS INSTALLATION

STEP 1 — INSTALL LATEST GPU DRIVER

For example for Ubuntu based distributions with a nVidia GPU:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa

sudo dpkg —add-architecture i386

sudo apt install nvidia-driver-450 libnvidia-gl-450 libnvidia-gl-450:i386

sudo apt install libvulkan1 libvulkan1:i386

sudo dpkg —add-architecture i386

sudo apt install libgl1-mesa-dri:i386

sudo apt install mesa-vulkan-drivers mesa-vulkan-drivers:i386

STEP 2 — INSTALL WINE STABLE

Easiest method is to install Wine from your distribution’s repository through the Terminal, for example on Ubuntu based distributions:

STEP 3 — INSTALL LUTRIS

Choose the installation method for your distribution, for example on Ubuntu based distributions:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:lutris-team/lutris

STEP 4 — INSTALL DRAGON AGE ORIGINS USING LUTRIS

Please note there are two Lutris scripts, one for installing the game from GOG and another from EA Origin, so choose the correct one.

FOR STEAM INSTALLATION

STEP 1 — INSTALL LATEST GPU DRIVER

For example for Ubuntu based distributions with a nVidia GPU:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa

sudo dpkg —add-architecture i386

sudo apt install nvidia-driver-450 libnvidia-gl-450 libnvidia-gl-450:i386

STEP 2 — INSTALL DRAGON AGE ORIGINS THROUGH STEAM

First enable Steam Proton for your entire library by navigating to Steam / Settings / Steam Play / Advanced, tick the Enable Steam Play for all other titles, restart Steam and then install the game as normal.
