Как открыть и прочитать файлы электронной почты «.eml».

Многие почтовые программы и службы позволяют загружать и сохранять сообщения электронной почты в формате «.eml». Эти текстовые файлы, содержащие полные заголовки сообщений, и полное содержимое сообщений, закодированных в формате MIME. Кроме того эти файлы могут содержать гиперссылки и вложения(файлы).

Источник заголовка с текстовым файлом можно прочитать с помощью любого стандартного текстового редактора. Но вложенные файлы кодируются и не будут заметны при просмотре исходного файла в стандартном текстовом редакторе.

Чем открыть файл формата EML

С помощью программ описанных ниже, их не только можно открыть, но так же можно редактировать содержимое файла.

Хоть «.eml» является широко используемым стандартом, старые версии Microsoft Outlook (до версии v2010) могут не поддерживать его.

Чем открыть файл формата EML В Windows 7,8,10?

В Windows можно открыть с помощью программ: Microsoft Outlook, Windows Live Mail, Thunderbird, Mozilla, The Bat!.

How to open eml files?

I’ve got a mail with eml file attached. I’m using Thunderbird but it doesn’t open it. Could anybody suggest program to open eml files? Update: I don’t want to import my mailbox I want only read the content of eml file.

For the love of command line tools, instead of the visual/heavy Thunderbird/KMail or Evolution.

sudo apt-get install mpack 

Then to extract the eml contents

In my case I need to use -t to get past the following error messages

munpack ./ServerPerformance.eml tempdesc.txt: File exists image001.jpg.2 (image/jpeg) 

I then get every thing out like this.

munpack -t ./ServerPerformance.eml part1 (text/plain) part2 (text/html) image001.jpg.3 (image/jpeg) 

I saved attachment after I opened with File->Open Saved Messages. menu in Thunderbird.

If you have Chromium you can drop eml files on it and it will show properly. On my Raspbian Chromiun is default.

You can use MHonArc (what a website 😍) to convert the .eml files to HTML, if you want something command-line-y but pandoc isn’t working out for you (it didn’t for me):

sudo apt install mhonarc mhonarc -single file.eml > file.html 

You can open an .eml file simply with Thunderbird these days. No plug-in necessary.

sudo apt-get install thunderbird

In Thunderbird you can view it, print it, reply/forward/redirect, etc.

Go to File -> Open -> Saved Messages. or just double-click on an .eml file and select Open With. -> Thunderbird.

• Save the .eml file in any place in your computer.
• Install this plug-ins here. (see important note you can import EML files in IMAP accounts). To install the extension, follow this procedure:
  • download the xpi file that you find in this page or in the homepage, right clicking on the link and choosing «Save target as»;
  • in Thunderbird, go in «Tools» ➜ «Addons» (or «Extensions») and click on «Install»;
  • pick the xpi file you downloaded and follow the instructions;

  I’ve got the same issue in my company: one operator was forwarding a mail using Windows 10 Mail software and the other operator was unable to open the attached .eml file with Thunderbird.

  Simply let Thunderbird re-forward the message back to the Thunderbird operator, like if you’re forwarding the message to yourself, fixed the issue, actually i was able to see every attachment of the original message plus the true .eml file content.

  I think any text editor should do. Those files are pure ASCII as far as I know so you should be able to open them as text or as HTML file .

  yeah. I have no problem with opening it as text, but I want to access the attachments. I keep getting those funny emails with ppt or avi clips attached from a friend, but he always sends it as an EML file.

  Well, there is a ton of tools for that, uudecode, and such. Another idea is to use something like VMware or VirtualBox: Import the file into Outlook Express (comes with every Windoze), open it, and then forward the mail that gets displayed to ThunderBird again . But usually those *.eml files are plain ASCII and it should be possible to at least read the message therein.

  Looks like using a web browser that supports mht format is the easiest: just rename the .eml to .mht and open them

  Linus email clients have the facility to import/export outlook style email formats..

  • — export of all messages in single files (eml format);
    — import of all the eml files existing in a directory;
    Thunderbird etc..
  • Since EML files are created to comply with the industry RFC 822 standard, they can be used with most e-mail clients, servers and applications. Besides the Microsoft Outlook Express, EML files can be opened using most e-mail clients, such as Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Entourage, Mozilla Thunderbird, Apple Mail, and IncrediMail. Since EML files are plaintext and formatted much like MHT (MIME HTML) files, they can also be opened directly in the Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Opera, by first changing the file extension from ‘.eml’ to ‘.mht

  I use opera, so I could open such files via that browser, other would also work as long as they supported the mht format
