Epson Printer Utility for Linux provides the following functions。

Printer Status（Error / Warning)
Ink Levels
Paper Count Information
Nozzle Check
Head Cleaning

This document explains setting method of the software and usage procedure.

There is no official support provided for this software.
For information regarding printer hardware, repairs and replacement parts, please contact your local Epson dealer.

# rpm -i epson-printer-utility—.rpm

# dpkg -i epson-printer-utility-_.deb

# ./install.sh

# apt install libqt5widgets5

# yum install qt5-qtbase-gui

In the case of USB connection, you need to use EPSON USB custom backend to monitor the printer status during printing.

http://localhost:631/

Click the [Modify Printer] in [Administration] list box corresponding to the printer you wish to monitor.

Change [Local Printers] field to «Epson Inkjet Printer #1 (Epson Backend)» , so click [Continue].

# rpm -e epson-printer-utility

# dpkg -P epson-printer-utility

Arch Linux User Repository

The following error displayed by epson-printer-utility can be safely ignored. I don’t know what is the cause, but is doesn’t affect usability: Unable to load library icui18n «Cannot load library icui18n: (icui18n: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)»

If you get the error Communication daemon down, Error code = -1 , you have to start the ecbd service. You can either do that with sudo systemctl enable —now ecbd.service if you want the serice to run at system startup or with sudo systemctl start ecbd.service if you only want to start the service manually each time you use epson-printer-utility

Mind is blown that this still requires qt4. Qt 4 was retired 12 years ago.

Packages that use prebuilt deliverables, when the sources are available, must use the -bin suffix.

Epson provides an epson-printer-utility-1.1.1-1lsb3.2.src.rpm .

This package should probably either
a) be renamed to epson-printer-utility-bin ; or
b) have the source switched from epson-printer-utility_1.1.1-1lsb3.2_amd64.deb to epson-printer-utility-1.1.1-1lsb3.2.src.rpm

Does anybody know the location of the source now? I can’t find it even by navigating the Linux support site for Epson and trying to download from there. I just get a 404 error. New to Epson printers and not sure where else to look .

@RoestVrijStaal, feel free to adopt this package and apply these changes. I don’t own an epson printer anymore and will thus not continue maintaining this package.

For myself I modified the PKGBUILD to make modifying easier for myself by defining a separate variable for the part between /12/ and /$-blahblahblah

# Addition after the definition of pkgdesc deb_token='18/20/47a925b197d626fa66f80bb0eabbb56811a5eed8' # My modification of the definition of source source=("https://download3.ebz.epson.net/dsc/f/03/00/12/$/$_$-1lsb3.2_amd64.deb"

In this way, I only need to change 18/20/47a925b197d626fa66f80bb0eabbb56811a5eed8 to something new instead of fiddling within the definition of source itself.
