Linux performance vs Windows 11 ATS and ETS2

Linux performance vs Windows 11 ATS and ETS2

#1 Post by angrybirdseller » 07 May 2023 09:05

I wondering how Linux vs Windows 10 or 11 performance on the game like FPS if you switch over to Linux based OS as microsoft likes to create e-waste the forced TPM 2.0 requirement and not going to do work around to install windows 11 on it as windows 11 update can come mess up workaround. The CPU I-8600k certainly can handle ATS and ETS2 with 6800xt gpu without problems along with Xplane 11. Sure, you could get TPM 2.0 part of the motherboard and install it just figure only use my PC for gaming and not work. Recently the ending of steam supporting windows 7 and ending of updates for windows 10 worries me about future as buying new pc is expensive for little gain.

My experience so far with ETS2 (haven’t made benchmarks with ATS yet):

— About the same performance in Linux compared to Windows10 when running the Windows version of the game in Proton (highest fps seems slightly higher in native Windows, but lower fps seems to be slightly higher in Proton)

— Native Linux version of the game runs the worst

Here is a benchmark i made about a year ago in ETS2 — Triple Screen 7680×1440, Radeon RX 6900XT, Ryzen 9 3900X, g_traffic 0, the driven route was done in Valencia area by night (Iberia DLC):

Yeah matches what I see, proton gives the best performance. Unfortunately for me, my arduino range/splitter controller isn’t detected when I run the game under proton. Linux native can still run at 3440×1440 at 400% but can bog down a bit in map mod areas like Reforma Mexico.

Ets 2 linux vs windows

2 янв. 2015 в 9:24

I have both os’s on one computer (different hard drives). The quality difference between the two is dramatic with windows (direct x11) having a large advantage. I have the same mods loaded on both systems (promod — which btw is awsome). I have an nvidia 650ti- 8gig ram- haswell quad- both systems have the latest nvidia blob driver. I am running the game on ultra (looks fantastic on the windows system and just meh on the linux one). Other games I own on both platforms have equal if not better graphics on the linux system as well as performance (borderlands 2, Crusader Kings, etc).
So any idea as to how to up the graphics on the linux system (performance is pretty much equal) ??

Run in OpenGL and DirectX on Windows to compare there. It might not be Windows vs Linux but OpenGL vs D3D — not in the sense of D3D being better than OpenGL, but that SCS might have tweaked the D3D version more (it’s older isn’t it?).

Thanks for your replies — maybe it is just me then but there seems to be a big difference. Would prefer to use Linux version but I am fine using Windows. Opengl for me on windows is horrible compared to direct x so that is probably the issue

Sorry, the first thing is to not be able to proder, after this I tell you, why are you so surprised that a game like ETS2 can work on let’s say Ubuntu or Open Suse?
The fear you have is ignorance, you should consult and contrast the information before putting the first thing that comes out of your head for commenting.
A greeting.
