Fail to start wifi direct hotspot pdanet
In order to get around the mobile hotspot plan FoxFi needs to install a certificate to bypass the carrier blockage. A certificate installation is considered «security changes» on your phone, and Android 4.1 or later system requires a screen lock if *any* security changes is made (Android 4.4 further limits Screen Lock options to PIN or Password only). We have made a «Remove Lock» app that you can use to remove the Screen Lock while keeping the FoxFi Certificate installed. You can install the app apk file from here. This app will NOT work on Samsung phones with 5.0 (Lollipop) or later, however your phone should allow you to set Pattern Lock instead of PIN lock.
Your connection speed is determined by your phone’s data connection and WiFi connection. All PdaNet+ does is passthrough network packets from your computer to your phone’s data connection. It is very normal for cell phone’s data speed to fluctuate greatly at different times and area. It can not be predicted. In some rare cases the WiFi connection itself may be slow due ot signal interferance. If that is the case try to use USB mode instead and see if that works better for you.
We have started to see the Xbox connection issue reported recently from Verizon users even with older version of FoxFi. Since nothing is changed in FoxFi, we suspect that Verizon has started blocking the UDP port for Xbox Live traffics on the data service end. It is really not related to NAT settings (which you can’t change).

Phone: Pixel 3a (T-Mobile USA)
Version: Android 11 (RP1A.200720.009)
App: PdaNet 5.22 on phone and PdaNet 5.22.1 on Windows 10 PC (Latest versions of everything)
Issue: Whenever I enable WiFi Direct Hotspot, I receive the error «Bad data gram packet, please restart.» I’ve tried restarting the app on my phone and still get the same error. I have tried reinstalling and still get the same error. If I try to tether anyway, PdaNet on my phone says «Connected: My MAC adress(waiting)» and PdaNet on my computer says «Connecting to My Pixel information» and loads forever. Anybody know how to get this working? Seems like PdaNet might be dead, as I’ve sent a message to the devs with no reply.
Edit: USB tethering is still working, so I’ve switched over to that.
Edit 2: I got an email back and the app has been updated! Manually install the latest version from here .
Edit 3: It’s all up to date on the play store now. Working fine.
Edit 4: Got an error again. Turning mobile data on and off seems to fix WiFi Direct Hotspot. Nevermind it’s not working anymore. Error Code=16.

SOLVED! PdaNet Failed To Activate Hotspot
For owners of Android phones that frequently need to share Internet connections, PdaNet is a useful app to keep around. Using PdaNet, people would be able to turn their phones into hotspots that devices in the surrounding could connect to at any time they like. Usually, Android users only need to go through a few steps to create WiFi hotspots with the help of PdaNet. However, reports that claim PdaNet failed to activate hotspot times and again still appear sometimes.
You have a hard time getting PdaNet on your Android phone to put together a WiFi hotspot and need guidance? If that happens to be the case then you have come to the right place. This article could tell you virtually everything about the failure to create WiFi hotspots of PdaNet from causes to fixes.
What Might Have Gone Wrong
Various factors affect the performance of PdaNet but when you have difficulty creating Wifi hotspots, it’s strongly recommended that you consider the following possibilities
Inconsistencies
In use, the Android operating system runs smoothly but it also tends to pick up inconsistencies as time passes by. Once the inconsistencies accumulate to a certain level, oddities would occur and significantly influence the operation of apps including PdaNet. Hence, if you fail to get your PdaNet app to create a WiFi hotspot, there is a chance that it’s the result of inconsistencies. Fortunately, you don’t have to spend much effort to wipe inconsistencies on Android devices.
Network Settings
PdaNet only shares existing connections which means the network settings of devices have a big impact on the way it works. Assuming that you set up the settings correctly, PdaNet should have no trouble putting together hotspots at any time. On the other hand, in the case that you mess up the settings of your device, PdaNet cannot give you what you expect from it. As a result, when PdaNet failed to activate hotspot out of the blue, you must give network settings some thought.
Obsolescence
PdaNet receives various updates from time to keep up with the ever-changing network protocols. Thus, if you allow the PdaNet on your phone to become obsolete, it may experience problems while creating WiFi hotspots.
Availability Of Service
Unable to create Wifi hotspots with PdaNet no matter what? Then you have to see whether your phone could even connect to the Internet. If your phone cannot access the Internet, PdaNet is incapable of setting up Wifi hotspots for nearby devices to connect to.
