Fedora Linux 35 (November, 2021) Workstation 64-bit Official ISO Disk Image Download

Fedora Linux 35 was released in November, 2021, preceded by version 34, and was designed for desktop / laptop computers, and servers. Only the 64-bit version is available for Fedora Linux 35. Compared to the previous Fedora release, this version includes some new updates, such as GNOME 41, Wireplumber Session Manager, a new way to enable third-party software in GNOME Software, switch between multiple power profiles in the Power Panel of Settings in GNOME environments, IBus 1.5.25, Python 3.10, etc.

From version 31 onwards, Fedora dropped support for the 32-bit platform.

General information from Fedora

Fedora is a free and open source Linux operating system (or distribution) that has been developed by contributions from community members and Red Hat. Fedora was designed for personal computers and servers, and is currently available in three different editions, which are for Workstation (for personal computer), Server (for servers), and Atomic (for cloud computing). GNOME is currently the default desktop environment for the operating system, and the GNOME Shell is the default user interface. There are more other desktop environments supported in Fedora, such as Cinnamon, Xfce, and MATE. Like other Linux distributions, Fedora is bundled with many general software applications such as Firefox Browser, LibreOffice, Media Player etc.

Installation Instructions

Follow the steps given below:

1. Download the Fedora Linux 35 ISO image file from the download section.
2. Install a USB bootable creation software on your Windows PC.
3. Plug in a USB flash drive (at least 4 GB of free space available) with your PC.
4. Open the USB bootable creation software, and select the ISO image file of Fedora Linux 35, and start the process.
5. As soon as done, plug the bootable USB into a system where you want to install Fedora Linux 35.
6. Restart the target computer.
7. Press the boot device menu key and select USB to boot first.
8. Select USB device and start the Fedora Linux 35 installer.

Starting installer in VMware

1. Download the Fedora Linux 35 ISO image file from the download section.
2. Launch the VMware Player, and start creating a new virtual machine.
3. Select the ISO image file of Fedora Linux 35, and use the default settings for the virtual machine.
4. Start the virtual machine and go to the Fedora Linux 35 installer.

Starting installer in VirtualBox

1. Download the Fedora Linux 35 ISO image file from the download section.
2. Launch the Virtualbox application on your computer, and start creating a new virtual machine.
3. Select Ubuntu and use defualt settings for the virtual machine.
4. Start VM and when it asks to select the Host Drive, then select the downloaded Fedora Linux 35 ISO file in step 1.

Last step

As soon as you go to the Fedora Welcome Screen, follow the steps given below:

1. Proceed on the welcome screen.
2. Accept the license agreement, and proceed.
3. Configure firewall, date / time, etc.
4. Create root user.
5. Follow on-screen instructions, and complete the installation.
6. Log in to Fedora using your username and password.
7. Do not forget to remove the installation medium from the computer (for example, USB, CD / DVD).

Видео-обзор Fedora 35

Fedora — дистрибутив Linux, разрабатываемый проектом Fedora Project (проект спонсируется компанией Red Hat). Включает редакции для использования на персональных компьютерах, серверах, в облаке и IoT. По умолчанию использует среду рабочего стола GNOME. Различные графические среды доступны в официальных редакциях Fedora Spins.

Переход на GNOME 41

В качестве среды рабочего стола используется новая версия GNOME 41 (пресс-релиз, видео).

Ключевые улучшения GNOME 41:

• Обновлен Центр приложений.
• Добавлены настройки Энергопотребления.
• Добавлены настройки Многозадачности для рабочего стола.
• Добавлены настройки Mobile Network.
• В состав среды включена новая программа GNOME Connections для подключения к удаленным рабочим столам по VNC или RDP.
• Обновлен интерфейс музыкального проигрывателя Музыка.
• Улучшена производительность и стабильность.

Добавлен менеджер сеансов WirePlumber

В предыдущей версии, Fedora 34, компоненты PulseAudio и JACK были заменены на PipeWire. В текущем релизе в систему добавлен менеджер сеансов WirePlumber, который предназначен для настройки PipeWire. WirePlumber позволяет настраивать политики и правила для обработки/воспроизведения видео и аудио.

Fedora Cloud и BTRFS

В редакции Fedora Cloud теперь по умолчанию используется файловая система BTRFS. Также добавлена поддержка гибридной загрузки с поддержкой UEFI и BIOS.

Сторонние репозитории и курируемый список Flatpak программ

Теперь, при включении сторонних репозиториев «Third-party Software Repositories», они сразу становятся активны. Сторонние репозитории доступны в пакете fedora-workstation-repositories, который теперь предустановлен в системе.

Также, при включении сторонних репозиториев, становятся доступны для установки через Центр приложений избранные приложения из каталога Flathub. Это специально отобранные и протестированные приложения (в формате Flatpak), установка которых не вызывает юридических или других проблем для Fedora.

Через сторонние репозитории можно установить такие программы как Google Chrome, PyCharm, Stream, Skype, Microsoft Teams и другие.

Новая редакция Fedora Kinoite

Представлена первая версия новой редакции дистрибутива — Fedora Kinoite.

Ключевые особенности Fedora Kinoite:

• Fedora Kinoite основана на технологиях Fedora Silverblue.
• Неизменяемая (только для чтения) корневая файловая система /, а также каталог /usr.
• Изменяемые данные размещаются в каталоге /var
• Для управления пакетами используется технология RPM-OSTree. RPM-OSTree представляет собой технологию версионирования RPM-пакетов. Ее можно рассматривать, как некий аналог «Git для двоичных файлов» (файлов пакетов).
• Все пользовательские приложения представлены в виде Flatpack и запускаются в изолированных контейнерах.
• Образ системы монолитный и обновляется целиком.
• Использует среду рабочего стола KDE Plasma.

• В файле /etc/os-release теперь в качестве названия дистрибутива вместо «Fedora» используется «Fedora Linux»: NAME=»Fedora Linux». При этом идентификатор ID=fedora не изменился.
• После обновления системы (rpm upgrade) пользовательские сервисы, запущенные через systemd, будут перезагружены автоматически.
• Для хеширования паролей, сохраняемых в /etc/shadow, теперь используется метод yescrypt. yescrypt считается более безопасным, чем использованные ранее методы хеширования sha256crypt и sha512crypt.
• В редакции Workstation теперь предустановлен и активен демон power-profiles-daemon, который используется для переключения режимов энергосбережения. power-profiles-daemon обеспечивает поддержку настроек энергосбережения и возможность переключения режимов энергосбережения в GNOME 41.
• Используется ядро Linux 5.14.
• И другие изменения.
