I just bought a netbook with Intel Atom Cedarview (Cedar Trail) N2600 cpu with Intel GMA 3600 gpu. Intel GMA 3600 is a problematic piece of hardware and the only Linux distro I found with a useable driver is MeeGo and Ubuntu (using this PPA).
My question is how do I go about building the Ubuntu PPA sources into proper Debian packages? By the way I’m not a newbie and I use Debian Sid.

Why post two threads about the same thing. Also, who can say how incompatible the ubuntu packages are. You should probably just find the source code and and compile the drivers the normal way.

Well this is not just some package. It’s a driver. I know how to compile and to compile the debian way but I don’t know how to debianize ppa sources. Thank you for your input.

add the ubuntu source repo,
should look similar to:
deb-src http://mirrors.kernel.org/debian/ unstable main contrib non-free
You can install python-software-properties in order to use the add-apt-repository command:
Adding PPA through commandline If you're using the most recent version of Ubuntu (or any version from Ubuntu 9.10 onwards), you can add a PPA to your system with a single line in your terminal. Make sure you have the package python-software-properties installed. Step 1: On the PPA's overview page, look for the heading that reads Adding this PPA to your system. Make a note of the PPA's location, which looks like (for example): ppa:gwibber-daily/ppa Step 2: Open a terminal and enter: $ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:user/ppa-name Replace 'ppa:user/ppa-name' with the PPA's location that you noted above. Your system will now fetch the PPA's key. This enables your Ubuntu system to verify that the packages in the PPA have not been interfered with since they were built. Step 3: Now, as a one-off, you should tell your system to pull down the latest list of software from each archive it knows about, including the PPA you just added: $ sudo apt-get update
Note I have never messed with any Ubuntu package nor have I used the add-apt-repository command.
then follow the normal backporting steps:
How do I backport a sid package to testing or stable?
Install the Debian source (and the development tools, especially debhelper, devscripts, and build-essential), and then build the package.
add a deb-src line for sid to your sources.list
apt-get update
apt-get build-dep PACKAGE_NAME
apt-get -b source PACKAGE_NAME
The resulting debs should be in the current directory and can be installed with dpkg -i the.deb.
what magical package does Ubuntu have that isn’t available in either the normal Debian repos or a 3rd party repo?

I tried to compile the source package for the driver from the ppa but it has errors. It looks like it pretty much just copies some binary for for the 32-bit arch.

This procedure only works with a debian source repo. We’re trying to build a graphics driver here.

It is magical, especially considering PowerVR never released the sources, not even documentation. Somebody with real skills need to port this to debian.
Intel GMA 3600
The Intel GMA 3600 series is a family of integrated video adapters based on the PowerVR SGX 545 graphics core. It is used in Intel Cedarview [dead link 2023-04-23 ⓘ] CPUs (Atom D2500, D2550, D2700, N2600 and N2800).
The Linux kernel has support since version 3.5, but since version 4.15 the relevant kernel driver, uvesafb, has not been included in the kernel so using the DKMS version of the driver is necessary. See uvesafb for more information.
Xorg driver
At the moment there is no accelerated driver for Xorg, but some support is available using the Xorg modesetting driver provided by package xorg-server .

The modesetting driver allows disabling/enabling LVDS, VGA, etc. ports and changing resolution using xrandr.
The following can be used to disable LVDS and force enable VGA if needed.

Troubleshooting
Blank screen after resume
If after resume you got a blank screen try the following

It is unable to utilize whole chip power and play full HD videos using graphics acceleration. As workaround you could utilize the maximum power of your Atom CPU to decode video:
$ mplayer -lavdopts threads=4 -fs myvideo.avi
$ mpv --vd-lavc-threads=4 -fs myvideo.avi

Мой ГМА всегда работал норм. Недавно ставил BunsenLabs погонять, там ядро 3.16, кажется. Так оно немного подлагивало. Следовательно, просто ставь ядро посвежее и не парься.
Ходят слухи, что на какой-то версии убунты есть готовое патченое ядро, которое заводится за 3 секунды, я не проверял, но чтобы ты оценил масштаб проблемы:
Вкратце-там не работает 3-д ускорение, жить можно, но про игры забудь, HD-video только с тормозами. Пофиксить можно, но у меня лично это заняло 2 недели адского секса с строго определённой версией ядра и кучи сопутствующего софта, который собирается из исходников, короче, проще и правда выкинуть
Это случайно не та поделка , которую intel лицензировал у powervr. В результате чего нету толковых дров на видяху ? Присоединяюсь к выше отписавшимся, проще выкинуть.
Старое ядро и блоб. Правда там ещё вроде атом вместо процессора, потому таки лучше выкинуть.
Не знаю как 3600, у меня в нетбуке более древняя. Ни под одну GMA полноценных дров не нашёл, получилось завести только 2D ускорение, но при просмотре видео всё равно адский тиринг.
Этот ускоритель это ребрендинг PowerVR какого-то, интел к нему отношения не имеет. Как уже писали — проще выбросить, драйвер никто выпускать не будет.
Поддержка компонентов завист от ядра linux/дистрибутива, или всего сразу?
Включение DRM_GMA3600 в ядре достаточно для работы KMS фреймбуфера.
Большего от него требовать не стоит. Ставишь Xorg с IceWM и не рыпаешься.
Работает ли сразу, или нужно что-то исправлять?
Часто требует принудительного отключения LVDS входа (в параметрах ядра)
Это свободная заглушка, ускорения не будет.
