2. Качаем соответсвующий HP BIOS UPDATE AND RECOVERY.

I can’t install ubuntu server on hp 260g2

Hello,
I have downloaded the ubuntu server 20.04 iso from the official page, I have mounted it with rufus, all the installation steps are perfect until it is time to install the system, nothing happens, the screen stays black, I have left it like that for hours, any solution?

Re: I can’t install ubuntu server on hp 260g2

What are the options you chose and what is the layout of the disks in the partitioner? It should have at least had said that the installer ‘tried’ to start some process. Even if that process fails. That is definitely odd.

Did you verify the checksum of the Live Installer image before burning it to USB?

Which point release of 20.04.x did you try to install?

Curious— Why 20.04 LTS instead of 22.04 LTS? LTS 22.04.2 is very solid, and the installer for that had a lot of improvements.

Installing Centos 7 on an HP 260 G2 PC

I needed a low cost general purpose PC with a small form factor and independent dual displays to learn Linux.

I came across an HP 260 G2 which fulfilled my requirements. The specifications on HP’s site only listed support for Windows and FreeDOS

HP 260 G2

After many hours of Googling, I couldn’t find anyone who had any experiences installing Centos on this PC, I tried looking for Linux support for the WiFi and Gigabit Ethernet interfaces but came up empty. Eventually I decided to order one and hope for the best.

Installing Centos 7

Using the Centos 7 Minimal Installation went really well – no issues booting from a USB stick using UEFI, no errors during the install process, rebooted…… and the screen filled with PCI errors, with no sign of the login prompt.

kernel: pcieport 0000:00:1c.3: [ 0] Receiver Error
kernel: pcieport 0000:00:1c.3: AER: Multiple Corrected error received:/> kernel: pcieport 0000:00:1c.3: AER: Corrected error received:/> kernel: pcieport 0000:00:1c.3: PCIe Bus Error: severity=Corrected, type=Physical Layer, ID)

kernel: pcieport 0000:00:1c.3: device [8086:9d13] error status/mask=00000001/00002000

Investigated this error and it is related to Active State Power Management (ASPM)

Active State Power Management (ASPM) is a power management protocol used to manage PCI Express-based (PCIe) serial link devices as links become less active over time. It is normally used on laptops and other mobile Internet devices to extend battery life.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_State_Power_Management

It appears that this PC doesn’t fully support ASPM, to switch this off requires a boot command line option to be switched off.

Reboot and when the GRUB boot loader starts you need to edit the default (highlighted) entry, by pressing ‘e’

Then scroll down until you find a line beginning with “ linuxefi /vmlinuz “, go to the end of this line and add “ pcie_aspm=off

Press “ Ctrl-x ” to start linux, you should now be able to get to the login prompt.

To make this change permanent you need to edit the grub configuration file and add “ pcie_aspm=off ” to the end of the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX line, then save the file.

sudo vi /etc/default/grub

grubconfigfile

Changes to this file is made effective by executing the following command on UEFI-based systems,

sudo grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/efi/EFI/centos/grub.cfg

Reboot just to make sure the changes have been successful.

Adding the GUI

Next step is the add the GUI

sudo yum groupinstall “X Window System”

To check what the default interface is

sudo systemctl get-default

To set the GUI to be the default start up interface

sudo systemctl set-default graphical.target

Next, switch over to the GUI without rebooting

sudo systemctl isolate graphical.target

SSD’s and Swap Files

To reduce how frequently active processes are swapped out from physically memory on to disk, you can adjust the swappiness.

To change the swappiness without rebooting

sudo sysctl vm.swappiness=1

To make a permanent, edit the following file and add “ vm.swappiness = 1

vm_swappiness

Changing the Primary Display on a Dual Display configuration

If you are using two displays it may not correctly determine the primary display, to alter which is the primary display use xrandr

xrandr-1

the output above shows two displays (DP1 and HDMI1), with HDMI1 being the primary.

To change the primary display to DP1, run the following command (please note the names are case sensitive)

xrandr –output DP1 –primary

This updates a configuration file in your home folder, to view the contents of the file

You may find that your login screen is also the not correct, to set the current configuration as a default on start up, you need to copy the monitors.xml file to /var/lib/gdm/.config/

sudo cp .config/monitors.xml /var/lib/gdm/.config
