HP Scanjet 3690 on Linux Mint 16 amd64

I’m trying to use a HP Scanjet 3690 on Linux Mint 16 amd64. The scanner is detected as Scanjet 3670c (name displayed by gscan2pdf, simplescan, xsane). Whenever I try to scan something the program crashes — I click «Scan» in gscan2pdf and the window disappears (but i can notice a progress bar appear for fraction of a second before that). The scanner doesn’t react to anything. The machine was working yesterday under WinXP, it’s power supply is ok, usb connection too.

Hi. HP multifunction devices are usually well supported, but often the latest Linux driver in the repositories does not quite keep up with the hardware. I’m not familiar with the Scanjet 3690, but I have always found the solution to my printer problems is to go to http://hplipopensource.com and try the latest driver from them. Hope that helps!

EDIT: Sorry, I didn’t realise it’s an older model flatbed scanner, not a printer.

There’s a scanner program called VueScan from http://www.hamrick.com/ that may be able to drive it. You can try that for a free trial, with watermarks on the image, to see if that helps pinpoint the problem?
Also, did you try xsane directly?

What do you mean by «directly» ?

A friend dropped by with a Debian Stable 7.2 live CD and when I booted my machine from it the scanner worked with xsane without any problems, so this seems to be some problem that affects Mint in particular. I might just have to downlaod Xubuntu and see how that works.

I am reading this as you making the assumption that xsane is part of Xubuntu; so have to xsane, you first of all need xubuntu; well, if that is the assumption, it aint’ so .

xsane is just the front-end of the behind the scenes work that the sane libraries do http://www.sane-project.org/

to install xsane/sane if you use the programme package manager or synaptic; and type in xsane: that gives you the front-end and it will drag in all the sane libraries that are needed; your device is listed as completely supported

I have xsane installed and it crashes when i try to scan anything. (as described in fist post)

What I meant was that my 3690 worked when I booted Debian from a live CD, it worked when was connected to an another PC with older Xubuntu few months ago, and it does not work with Mint 16 which I have right now. And I’m not really happy with going back to Xubuntu, which was more buggy than Mint (in my experience) just to have a working scanner.

сканер hp scanjet 3670 в Linux

hp scanjet 3670 не поддерживается Sane. Очень бы хотельсь запустить этот сканер в Ubuntu 9.10. Какие есть варианты?

Уже пару месяцев ищу решение. Проблема на англоговорящих форумах вставала, но решения найдено не было. Нельзя ли запустить сканер как-нибудь через Wine? (я ставил Windows драйвера, но, понятное дело, ничего не работает)

На сегодняшний день сканер — единственное, что держит от форматирования раздела Windows. Virtual Box поможет?(хотя в последнем случае опять возврящаемся к пресловутому Windows)

конечно подключал. Пытался подключать к разным компам с разными дистрибутивами (OpenSuSE 11.1, 11.2 -GNOME/KDE, теперь пробую к Ubuntu). OpenSuse при подключении долго думал, потом выдавал, что данная модель сканера не поддерживается, правильно определяя модель.

В Ubuntu, если выполнить sudo xsane, не выводятся ошибки. Нажимаю Сканировать, XSane выключается, в консоли сообщение — «Segmentation fault». При этом Xsane определяет сканер как 3670c (это не совсем моя модель, как вы понимаете)

и еще, перед тем как выключиться, около 1/2 секунды сканер жужжит. Пробовал изменить параметны сканирования, результат не меняется

Попробуй прописать его как 2400, 4500, 4570 или 5530.
