Best Headphones with Microphone Buyers Guide
Microphone Type
When looking to buy a headset, the first question you must ask yourself is, how will you be using it? Do you need it only for sound? Or since virtually all headsets now come equipped with a microphone, is that also necessary?
Most microphones are attached to the control panel on the cable. They are ok if you just want to take the odd social call, but the quality is generally poor. The better microphone designs are either built into the headphones or swing out on a boom, so you talk directly into them.
Built-in designs use omnidirectional mics that will also capture all the surrounding sounds. Depending on how noisy the environment, this may not be so clear for your listener. Boom designs use directional mics, which are the best at capturing high-quality sound and for recording it, as they only capture sound from a single direction.
Noise Cancelation
Whether they are earbuds or over the ear designs, headphones have always been designed to block outside noises. But this technology has come a long way over the years.
Active Noise Cancellation technology now uses an extra microphone to capture environmental sounds. These are then negated using inverse sound waves that the headphones create, which pretty much eliminating any external noise. Quite amazing when you think about it. However, some manufacturers have definitely used this technology more effectively than others.
Audio Excellence
High-quality audio in your ears and superb crystal clear voice into your mic is what the best headsets guarantee. And if you intend using the headphones to listen to music or watch movies, make sure you also get a good set of cans as well as a quality mic. No point sacrificing versatility if you don’t have to.
Comfort
The best headphones with microphones should be a comfortable fit, especially if you are putting in long hours of use. Make sure they don’t clamp down too hard on your ears or head. If it instantly feels too tight, then think what it will be like hours down the line.
Bluetooth
To Bluetooth or not to Bluetooth, that is the question. The direct audio signal you get with a cable will give you the security of uninterrupted communication you need for more professional activities.
However, Bluetooth technology has improved a lot of late, but there is still a loss of sound quality when using wireless headphones and occasional interference and drop-outs. But, cables can also get in the way, restrict movement and often break. Make sure the cable on the model you buy is well housed and made with durable material.
Battery Life
If you’re buying a wireless model, make sure you know the battery duration before you buy. You’ll want something that lasts longer than a few hours and isn’t snail paced to recharge.
Now that we’ve gone through what you need to look out for, let’s dive in and review 10 of the best headphones with microphone currently available and find the perfect one for you…
Best Headphones with Microphone Comparison Table
Top 14 Best Headphones with Microphone in 2023
1 Jabra Evolve 75 – Best Headphones with Microphone for Homeworkers
Jabra’s name should be no stranger to anyone in the audio world. Especially if music enjoyment is what you’re going for. With the Evolve 75, however, they seem to be heading in a different direction.
This headset is geared toward those who work in offices or from home and need to take a lot of calls at irregular intervals. It costs around $290 dollars which is not cheap and doesn’t include the wireless charging stand. It does include the headset, a very high-quality micro USB charging cable which is actually a practical length, and a nice hard case travel bag for the headset.
Practical and elegant…
Like all things Jabra, the Evolve 75 is very well made and put together. The design is lightweight, elegant, and practical. Swiveling earcups mean the Evolve 75 can be stored in about the same space as a normal size novel.
The headset is very comfortable, thanks to the plush cushions and the soft leather coverings. The lightweight means the Evolve 75 can be worn for hours without discomfort. The microphone can be tucked away and locked in place with a magnet to keep it from disturbing you when you’re not using it.
Solid as a rock…
The Evolve 75T is equipped with Bluetooth version 4.0, delivering a solid wireless connection at a distance of 50 to 100 ft. The microphone has got built-in noise canceling which can be activated or deactivated using the button on the left earcup. On the right earcup, you will find buttons for volume up and down, answering calls, and turning the headset on and off.
On a full charge, the Evolve 75 will provide you with around 18 hours of talk time. The charging time is about four hours. I wish there was USB C instead of the frustratingly irrelevant Micro USB, but you can’t have everything.
Fully-featured…
One of the best features of any Jabra product is the companion software, and the Evolve 75 is no exception. Using the Jabra Direct app, you can adjust the tone of the sound, activate voice prompts, activate Safetone, which protects your ears from excessive volume, as well as activate the Sidetone, which allows some of the outside world in.
Voice quality on the Evolve 75 is superb, and by using the Tone control in the companion app, you can adjust it to fit any situation. The ANC on the microphone does an excellent job of eliminating the background noise that might interfere with your call.

2 Corsair HS70 Pro – Best Value for Money Headphones with Microphone
At around $80, the Corsair HS70 Pro manages to climb into the heavyweight category when it comes to value for money, and here’s why…
As far as design and build quality are concerned, it would be hard to beat the HS70 Pro in its price range. Trying to bend this thing out of proportion is not easy at all, and a few falls and knocks are going to do anything to it. The minimalist design applies only to the steel frame, though because the cushions are nice and plush, no expense is spared there.
Super comfortable for most…
That being said, the earcups could have been a bit deeper and wider, but this is not to say that they are not comfortable. People with larger ears might want to give them a pass, but for the rest of us, the HS70 Pros will be nothing but a joy to wear, even in gaming sessions that go on for hours.
The HS70 Pro gives a good signal through Bluetooth for a distance of up to 15 meters. On the right earcup, you’ll find a power button; on the left, there is a Volume Wheel, Mic Mute Button, and a Micro USB port for charging.
Speaking of charging, the HS70 Pro can be charged from empty to full in about an hour and a half. On a full charge, you will get around 16 hours of battery life. The headset can be used while it is charging.
The microphone on the HS70 Pro is detachable, which is handy if you just want to listen to some tunes. If you happen to fall asleep while you’re doing so, the auto sleep function will turn off the headset automatically after a set time. There are also useful audio cues like “power on” and “going to sleep” to help you keep track of what’s going on.
Inside the companion software, you’ll find a very versatile 10-band eq with some decent presents to get you started, plus you can also create and save your own. You can also switch on the Sidetone feature to let some of your surroundings in, and finally, you can activate the 7.1 surround feature.
Total immersion…
The sound on the HS70 Pro is wide and immersive. This makes sense, given the open design of the earcups. The low end is boomy and powerful, but it might not be as defined as other headsets in this price range due to having that wider sound.
The directionality and separation of sounds are superb, if you’re playing a fast-paced shooter like Quake or COD, you’ll be twisting your neck from continually shouting ‘cover me’ in your living room.
The mic doesn’t have a windscreen which is a bit disappointing at this price point, but the quality is very good. There’s audible compression, and the low end is relatively weak, but the microphone can still get the job done with no problem.
