Installing Android Apps on Debian

People are awesome. Someone actually made a program so you can install your Android APK files on your Linux machine, and run the Android apps within Linux. There is a 1080p YouTube video on the bottom of this page if you want a more visual guide.

How it works

How it actually work is better described from the creators. Quote: «Shashlik provides an incredibly stripped down Android base which boots directly into the loaded app, but with a running activity manager and daemons so that intents still work correctly.» Quote end.

They use the KDE Plasma 5 environment when they make the program. I tried this using a Debian machine and the XFCE envirement and did not manage to get the Android apps to start. If you fail using anything else than KDE, that might be your issue aswell. Just a sidenote.

Getting and installing the latest .deb

The latest one per today when this tutorial was written is V0.9.3 and is found here. To be sure you get the lates you are better off finding your download link at the official website. To do the actual thing you type the following:

Terminal — ComputerMentor@GuidePC

dpkg -I shashlik_0.9.3.deb NOTE: Capital i to find dependencies

apt-get install dependencies NOTE: Install missing if any is found

Installing and starting the Android apps

I assume you already have a few Android APK’s downloaded. If not, Google is your friend. There seems to be alot of sketchy webpages out there with modified APK’s who dont even start to install using Shashlik. if you find a reliable source of APK’s dont hesitate to tell it in the comment section below for your fellow Android/Linux users to enjoy

Type the following in the same folder you have your APK’s stored. No sudo or root user needed. Exit su mode if you are still in it

This is still in Beta, and alot of apps probably dont work. You will need to get APK’s written for x86 and not ARM.

Как запустить приложения и игры для Android в Linux

Если в Windows и macOS запуск приложений из других операционных систем реализован достаточно легко, то в Linux придётся немного заморочиться. Начиная с установки и заканчивая запуском программ.

Для Linux есть Anbox, среда с открытым исходным кодом, основанная на последней версии Android Open Source Project (AOSP). Для запуска приложений используются контейнеры LXC и модули ядра, собираемые через DKMS. Это позволяет запускать приложения на железе и ядре хоста с производительностью сравнимой с нативной. То есть без всяких прослоек, эмуляции и очень быстро.

Установка

Anbox поддерживает процессоры архитектуры x86_64. Установить Anbox можно либо с помощью оснастки Snap, либо с помощью скрипта anbox-installer. Рассмотрим оба варианта.

Установка на Ubuntu с помощью Snap

1) Чтобы установить snapd, используйте следующую команду в терминале:

sudo apt install snapd

2) Затем запустите установку Anbox:

snap install --classic anbox-installer && anbox-installer

3) Выберите «1» для установки и согласитесь со всеми запросами на разрешение. Дождитесь установки, перезагрузите систему, готово!

Установка на Ubuntu с помощью скрипта anbox-installer

$ wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/anbox/anbox-installer/master/installer.sh -O anbox-installer $ chmod +x anbox-installer

$ sudo ./anbox-installer

3) Скрипт запросит написать I AGREE, установит Anbox и предложит перезагрузить систему. После перезагрузки в меню появится пункт Anbox.

Установка на Arch Linux из исходников

В качестве альтернативы могу предложить установку Anbox из исходников. Проще всего это сделать в Arch Linux, так как Anbox уже есть в AUR и весь процесс сборки можно автоматизировать.

1) Установим необходимые для сборки пакеты:

$ sudo pacman -S linux-headers dkms

2) Соберите Anbox из AUR. Лучше сделать это с помощью AUR-клиента, такого как pacaur или yaourt:

$ yaourt -S anbox-image anbox-modules-dkms-git anbox-git

3) Загрузите необходимые модули ядра:

$ sudo modprobe binder_linux $ sudo modprobe ashmem_linux

4) Запустите container manager:

$ sudo systemctl start anbox-container-manager.service

5) Запустите session manager:

$ anbox session-manager --gles-driver=host &

6) Готово. Запустите Anbox из терминала:

$ anbox launch --package=org.anbox.appmgr --component=org.anbox.appmgr.AppViewActivity

Установка файлов APK в Linux

После перезагрузки системы Anbox появится в меню.

Если при запуске Anbox ничего не происходит, то откройте терминал и введите:

anbox session-manager

Для установки приложений понадобятся их APK. Скачать их можно с соответствующих сайтов. После включите установку из неизвестных источников и запустите нужный APK. Программы установятся и будут доступны вместе с другими приложениями Linux.

Также есть вариант установки с помощью ADB. В Anbox по умолчанию активирован режим отладки с помощью ADB и установить сам ADB можно так:

$ sudo apt-get install android-sdk-platform-tools 

$ sudo pacman -S android-tools 

Для установки приложения нужно выполнить такую команду (пример для FX File Explorer):

$ adb install ~/Downloads/File Explorer_v5.1.1.0_apkpure.com.apk

How do I run Android’s .apk files on linux without the Android emulator?

I do not have a very good background of Android and the .apk files, hence these questions.

You cannot install .apk files directly onto your PC. Even though Android uses the Linux kernel, the applications runs on a totally different platform. APK files are ZIP file formatted packages based on the JAR file format, with .apk file extensions. They hold all of that program’s code (such as .dex files), resources, assets, certificates, and manifest file. They run only on the Dalvik virtual machine.

Install Android OS on your PC, if you really want to run them from a computer.

You can use the ARChon to run apk in ubuntu:

1. Install the ARChon Runtime. http::github.com/vladikoff/chromeos-apk/blob/master/archon.md
2. Open and enable the flag: chrome://flags/#enable-nacl,then restart Google-Chrome. (Important!)
3. Install existing android apps in the website or convert your favourite android apps by «Online APK-CRX Converter.
4. Drag and drop the Google-Chrome extensions into the chrome://extensions/ page in the browser and it will be installed in your browser. Enjor it!

1. An apk file is not an executable, it’s just an archive file contaning all the resources and class files that are to be used by the application.
2. The apk is set to be unpacked and run by the Dalvik vm.
3. The elements that are contained inside the apk file are specifically designed and designated to be used in Android mobile phones and not a desktop PC running Linux. Though Android uses the Linux kernel, you definitely cannot run the apk file on a Linux machine, as you would an rpm or a deb file.

Thank you. Is it absolutely necessary that we need the ‘dalvik vm’ to run it, or can we replicate the operations by ‘dalvik vm’ manually, with tweaks, to make it run on linux directly?

No we cannot ! It will be like taking a human being who is designed to live and breath on earth , to Mars and tweaking Mars so as to accomodate human beings.

@Achilles Off topic, but random joke. There is two know mars missions planned, one by NASA and the other by MarsOne. These will later include teramorphing mars as there is not only ice on mars, but flowing water too. All one needs to synthesize an atmosphere is oxygen and electricity to create ozone. Back to topic, yes to «emulate» or reconstruct and optimise a vm is possible. But the time needed to do so is greater than the feasible use thereof (HrishikeshMurali)
