Drivers for Intel Mobile 945GME? (SOLVED!)

Post by jlr1701 » Thu Dec 10, 2009 5:00 pm

I’ve been using Mint 7 for a few weeks on my new Dell Inspiron Mini 10 netbook, and it’s working great. But, I’m wondering if I could be getting better video performance. How can I tell which video driver Mint is using? Are there proprietary drivers available, and if so, how can I install them?

Just FYI, here’s the output of lspci:

Дистрибутив с Xorg для Intel 945G

Intel 945G.

Re: Дистрибутив с Xorg для Intel 945G

Вот совсем не пропатченный Debian Etch: (II) I810: Driver for Intel Integrated Graphics Chipsets: i810, i810-dc100, i810e, i815, i830M, 845G, 852GM/855GM, 865G, 915G, E7221 (i915), 915GM, 945G, 945GM, 965G, 965G, 965Q, 946GZ

Re: Дистрибутив с Xorg для Intel 945G

Fedora, ASP.

Re: Дистрибутив с Xorg для Intel 945G

Intel 945G

Intel 945G.

Re: Дистрибутив с Xorg для Intel 945G

Intel 945G

Intel 945G

I know that my Ubuntu 12.04 comes with Intel drivers for it, but for some reason it is running in 2D mode. As shown above, the OS recognizes the hardware. I ran the following commands that may indicate a problem, but is beyond my knowledge.

Intel 945GM drivers

Hello all, I’ve installed the drivers using this method: http://blog.programmerslog.com/?p=378 everything installed fine. BUT none of my games are detecting the drivers are installed. If anyone can help, it’s appreciated.

P.S. I know it says for Ubuntu, I figured that since mint is based on Ubuntu that everything would work fine. If I’m wrong, just let me know and I’ll try to find another method to get things working. TY!

What version and DE of Mint are you running ? What games ?
Open a terminal, type inxi -F (enter), inxi -G (enter), and copy/paste the whole output back here.

And in the mean time, please read these simple forum rules

Sorry about that, I’m Running Linux Mint 8, Helena, the games that don’t see the drivers are pretty much all of them: Starcraft, Diablo 2, Knights of the Old Republic, Freespace 2, Freelancer, DDO Unlimited, a few otehrs I can’t think of at the moment. KOTOR and Starcraft just freeze up when I go to load them. Haven’t tried Diablo 2 in a while.

Here is the info from the inxi -F i got:

Thread: How To: Install Intel 945GM x86/MMX/SSE2 graphics Ubuntu 12.04

First Cup of Ubuntu

How To: Install Intel 945GM x86/MMX/SSE2 graphics Ubuntu 12.04

This is going to be my first how to guide: Installing Intel 945GM x86/MMX/SSE2 graphics Driver in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. These steps worked for me on my machine and I was able to replicate the steps and outcome in a vmware virtual machine on WinXP as well.

Before you begin I must say you will need to install a PPA to get this driver to be recognized in Ubuntu. A PPA is (Personal Package Archive)
The package we will be installing can be found here https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates

**Important: The contents of Personal Package Archives are not checked or monitored. You install software from them at your own risk. — From Launchpad
I will assume no responsibility for any harm to your computer as a result of following this guide, nor may I be of much help if these steps cause harm to your computer or if they fail to work.

Before we begin lets verify that your driver is not correctly configured in Ubuntu. You can do this by clicking: System Settings — Details — Graphics.
If Ubuntu is using the correct driver you should see: Driver Intel 945GM x86/MMX/SSE2 , Experience: Standard. If not, continue with the following steps.
After careful thought I have decided that it may be possible to skip to step four. I seem to remember step 3 being already installed in Ubuntu, but I’m not positive. If it was already installed adding the xorg.conf file to etc/X11 directory and rebooting may solve your problem. If you wish to try it first please post your outcome.

All steps will be carried out from a terminal. Fell free to copy and past commands to complete the process.

Edit: ** After doing some reading and trying to fix the same problem on a Toshiba Satellite L500 I realized that you will also need. mesa-utils **

sudo apt-get install mesa-utils

Step 1: Open a terminal session by pressing CTRL+ALT+T

Step 2: Enter command » sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates » Installs the nessary PPA to your system

Step 3: Enter command » sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel » This installs the drivers for you graphics chip

* Ubuntu no longer uses xorg.config file. You will have to create this file in the next step and enter in values.

Step 4: Enter Command » sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf » This command will create the file and open it for you. Insert the text below exactly as it appears and click save.

Section «Device»
Identifier «Card0»
Driver «intel»
Option «AccelMethod» «sna»
EndSection

* Last step , restart your interface or just reboot you machine and go back to system settings — details — graphics and verify that your drivers are displayed. Best of luck and if you have any questions I’ll try my best to help. *

P.S A special thanks to the guys at #Ubuntu IRC channel for all their help and time and support, I’d also like to thank yigal and BlueEagle from the channel for helping me sort out my xorg.conf questions.
