Drivers for Intel HD Graphics 530
Intel has allowed multiple hardware types to be hidden (but not necessarily) under one graphics card name. This can be similar devices of the same generation or, on the contrary, a common name for a graphics card with different cores.
Multiple detection strings are available for this video card (Intel HD Graphics 530). If you need to select the right driver, you will need to know exactly what type of card you need it for. Everything can be found in the detail of the graphics card in the device manager.
Intel Graphics card name | PCI ID device | Core | Download drivers |
---|---|---|---|
Intel HD Graphics 530 | PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1912 | Skylake | |
Intel HD Graphics 530 | PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1917 | Skylake | |
Intel HD Graphics 530 | PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_191B | Skylake |

- The table above provides an overview of the available detection strings for the Intel(R) HD Graphics 530 graphics card.
Under this name, there are three graphics cards that differ in the detection chain. Please choose the right one.
If you want to see a list of drivers that are sorted by the available detection strings, see Intel PCI ID device.
You can also see a list of drivers sorted by release date or build.

Can’t get Intel HD Graphics 530 (Skylake i7 6700) to work
This device is not supported by linux yet. Maybe adding the ID is enough. But it needs testing. I suggest reporting a bug to launchpad.
I see that Xenial was based on kernel v4.3 until some time over a month ago, but Xenial is in beta stage (was in alpha stage at the time of this question) and hasn’t been released yet which makes it off topic here. Please report all bugs on the bug tracker.

Installing Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa solved it!
Somehow, Mint 17.3 enabled i915_bpo driver automatically. Here’s lshw output:
*-display description: VGA compatible controller product: Intel Corporation vendor: Intel Corporation physical id: 2 bus info: pci@0000:00:02.0 version: 06 width: 64 bits` clock: 33MHz capabilities: pciexpress msi pm vga_controller bus_master cap_list rom configuration: driver=i915_bpo latency=0
If you’re still running 17.2, you might have some luck with trying to install i915_bpo manually.
I found that DP and not HDMI works if you have a late kernel, 4.3 or so, and no nomodeset.
This is a minor bug that I’m sure will be fixed as time goes by and Skylake becomes popular.
I don’t use an external video card, just integrated Intel.

Установка драйвера Intel в Ubuntu
Intel
Ubuntu
sudo apt install xserver-xorg-video-intel
sudo apt install mesa-utils
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers

Intel HD 530 Drivers
I’m running Ubuntu 16.04 with my i3-6100 using integrated HD 530 graphics. Works fine. My question is should I install intel graphics stack release 2016 Q2 (https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloads/2016q2-intel-graphics-stack-release)? Just wondering if it would give me some options to customize my GPU settings or improve performance. Sorry about the noob questions.

No, if it’s a newer version at all it’s only slightly newer. Intel’s graphics drivers are open-source and use the Mesa OpenGL implementation, so they are included by default in Ubuntu. If you want a «bleeding-edge» development version, you may want to check out adding the Oibaf or Padoka PPAs.
However, I would say, «if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.»
No you should not. 16.04 ships with Kernel 4.4, the download you linked to is for 4.6. Intel Graphics for Linux Version 1.4.0 would be correct but:
