No driver Intel iRIS xe under Ubuntu 21.04
Since I have make the new Ubuntu update, I have a black screen when I start my HP laptop (11th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-1165G7 @ 2.80GHz × 8 ) with a Intel iRIS xe GPU. The only solution that I have find until now to work with my laptop is to put the «nomodeset» command in the grub but with this option, linux don’t used the Intel vendor driver and the driver that I can see in my config is a «llvmpipe (LLVM 12.0.0, 256 bits)» I have reinstall my laptop one time with Secure Boot and one time without but I have always the same issue. I have try other solution like the «oibaf» drivers but always the same issue. Here are info :

Without this drivers, I can’t change the brighthess of my screen and everybody is a little bit to dark for me 🙂 Can somebody help me ? Thanks you Jean-Marc

[SOLVED] Intel iRIS Xe Graphics for Mint 20.1 ?

Linux Mint 20.1 in dual boot on an Asus Vivobook S14 i5 11th
Mint runs, but there is a startup warning:
«Check your video drivers.
Your system is currently running without video hardware acceleration.
You may experience poor performance and high CPU usage.
Launch Driver Manager.»
There are no brightness control or choice of screen resolution.
It would work for me, still I wonder about CPU usage, battery consumption, overheating due to those missing video drivers.
Any hints about:
— where to find drivers for the latest Intel video-cards?
— any temporary solutions, like compatible Intel drivers?

Intel drivers are in the kernel. They should load automatically when the system boots.
You have provided no information about your Mint install, so we do not know what the issue might be. If you are not using the 5.8 kernel, I suggest upgrading to it.
Open Update Manager. Select View > Linux Kernels and click Continue. Make sure 5.8 is selected on the left panel and then click the top-most option on the right panel. An «Install» button will appear. Install the kernel and then reboot for it to become active.
If that does not address the problem, give us information about your install by entering this command in a terminal: inxi -Fxxxrz
Click >from the mini toolbar above the textbox where you type your reply and then place your cursor between the code markers and paste the results of the command between the code markers
Results
. This will let us know how Mint sees your hardware.

There was kernel 5.4.
(Isn’t it weird? I downloaded Mint less than a week ago from the official website)
Installed kernel 5.8 and yes:
1) startup graphics warning disappeared
2) the brightness tab appeared in the Power Management
3) multiple resolution choices are available in Display
4) keyboard back-lights are on
Do you still need the inxi output at this point?
Here is the piece for graphics:

The 5.4 kernel is the official LTS kernel with LM20, but there are a lot of computers with newer hardware that need a newer kernel. That 5.8 kernel will not be LTS (which is why it was not on the ISO you downloaded), so you will need to update to a newer one when it goes end of life in the future.
Because so many people did need the newer kernel, Mint released Linux Mint 20.1 «Ulyssa» — Cinnamon (Edge, 64-bit) which has the 5.8 kernel. You may want to get a copy of that one so if you need to do any work with a Mint live session (run from the usb) in the future it will work for your computer.
