intel wireless 8265 / 8275 iwlwifi not working in linux

I use a 8265 / 8275 (rev78) in my laptop huawei matebook x, and the subsystem given by lspci is «Huawei . Device 3e02». Currently I cannot find a way to make the 8265 work. As a contingency plan, I pluged a usb wireless card, and it works fine. I hope I can get some help here.
These distros have been tried: Arch, Debian, Gentoo, Ubuntu. So the problem should not be distro related.
I’ve went through https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/iwlwifi en:users:drivers:iwlwifi [Linux Wireless] and https://git.kernel.org/ Kernel.org git repositories , tried firmware/linux-firmare, and iwlwifi/linux-firmware, and have iwlwifi-8265-*.ucode (21,22,27,31) in /lib/firmware. modprobe works fine, and gives no errors. lsmod shows mac80211, cfg80211, iwlwifi, iwlmvm are added to kernel. But the intel wireless 8265 is still not working.

And for those who have a similar problem, I have not found a way to fix it. I had tried kernel 4.11, and iwlwifi not only 8265-ucode-22 on https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking/000005511.html Linux* Support for Intel® Wireless Adapters , but also 8265-ucode-27 and 8265-ucode-31. I contacted Huawei support before post here, and their final reply is that they don’t have a solution for this. So, I will wait for kernel 4.13 and give it a try. Since the problem might be caused by OEM customization, it’s better do not count much on it.

Installing the new kernel 4.12 appears to clear up wifi issues (running elementary os loki).

Thanks for your input. We recommend using Linux Kernel version 4.6 minimum, however, it is good to know you got it working in an older version.

Thank you. I’ve upgraded the kernel to 4.12.3-1 today, and the wifi works now. (arch linux on huawei matebook x).
Since I upgrade the system on a daily basis, and my script scans all network interfaces automatically, I guest 4.12.3 is the minimum kernel version for this customized hardware to work.

Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless 8265 / 8275 (rev 78) on ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS
Its been 5 months since I have started using ubuntu 16.04 LTS and I could not use wifi because the chip on my laptop is not recognised by ubuntu 16.04 (Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless 8265 / 8275 (rev 78)). I don’t have any driver to use the wifi. How can I solve this problem. Thank you in advance.
i scanned intel for info (intel.com.au/content/www/au/en/support/articles/000005511/…) said kernel 4.6+ is needed . hence maybe upgrading to a 4.6 kernel (or later) may help, support being ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2016/05/… note: i don’t know your device, nor if this will help.

As noted above, your device isn’t supported until kernel version 4.6 and later. I believe that Ubuntu 16.04.3 runs 4.4.0-xx; confirm:
You can install kernel version 4.10 with:
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install linux-generic-hwe-16.04 You probably also need newer firmware.
cd /tmp wget http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/l/linux-firmware/linux-firmware_1.169.1_all.deb sudo dpkg -i linux*.deb Reboot and your wireless should be working.
Thanks for this. I was having a slew of issues (wireless, USB, etc) with a brand new 7th generation Intel NUC. The steps above fixed my issues. As of Jan 14th, 2018, running sudo apt-get install linux-generic-hwe-16.04 gave me Kernel 4.13.0-26, likely due to the Meltdown patches. As a result, I installed firmware linux-firmware_1.169.2_all.deb. No issues so far.
