Как обновить ffmpeg linux

Привет всем. Что такое ffmpeg? Это огромный, мощный медиакомбайн. Он способен сделать с любым видеофайлом практически все, что угодно. Резка, склейка, конвертация, кодирование и многое другое. Для многих новичков в Linux, ffmpeg представляется чем-то абстрактным, сложным и неукротимым. Моя же задача на сегодня — показать, что это вполне конкретный рабочий инструмент, который может принести много пользы.

Как обновить FFMPEG и не потерять NVENC?

Как известно, в Ubuntu 18.04 и множестве других дистрибутивов уже «из коробки» ffmpeg собран и установлен с поддержкой аппаратного кодека nvenc. Он позволяет записывать игры с рабочего стола, вести прямые трансляции на Youtube и быстро кодировать видео, силами видекарты Nvidia. Для сравнения, один и тот же видеоролик может кодироваться с помощью NVENC в несколько раз (. ) быстрее, чем при использование ЦП и кодека libx264. Круто? Круто!

Как известно, ffmpeg регулярно обновляется, в него добавляются новейшие возможности и новые кодеки. Поэтому, ffmpeg желательно поддерживать в актуальном состоянии.
Но как обновить его правильно? При неудачном стечении обстоятельств, вы можете получить свежую версию ffmpeg, но без nvenc. А уж отдельно собирать его из исходников не каждый линуксоид захочет.

1. Подключаем PPA-репозиторий с ffmpeg командой :
sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:mc3man/trusty-media
2. Обновляем список пакетов:
sudo apt update
3. Обновляем системный ffmpeg до новейшей версии
sudo apt install —only-upgrade ffmpeg (два дефиса перед only)

Updating to latest ffmpeg [SOLVED]

Since updating to the latest get_iplayer I am getting an error which suggests to me that I also need to update my ffmpeg.

INFO: Begin converting file: /media/paul/Linux Xtr/Videos/Britains_Pompeii_A_Village_Lost_in_Time_-__b07myxws_original.partial.mp4.ts [mp4 @ 0x2492bc0] pts (1800) < dts (3600) in stream 0 av_interleaved_write_frame(): Invalid argument

If I view Software Manager it warms me that if I remove ffmpeg - The following packages would be removed: winff-gtk2, dvdstyler, kdenlive, libav-tools, devede, get-iplayer, dvd-slideshow, winff - a big list that I don't want to loose

So my question is how can I update ffmpeg to the latest version without loosing the other packages? I have 17.3 Qiana

Thank you all41. Having read through the instructions I think I will hold off for a while - I'm not brave enough to risk other things going wrong get_iplayer still downloads and plays ok so I'll wait and see if the regular ffmpeg gets updated through Software Manager.

Hi "Baldlygo", & Anyone Else Interested in this,

I just read your post and the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well.

Good catch on not removing "FFmpeg". It is important for all users to be watchful when installing any software application or removing any application (in any operating system), that the process does not want to remove other software that you and or other applications and programs might need. If you are unsure, then say "No" and ask here, like you did.

It would help to know more about your system setup. If you run " inxi -Fxzd " from the console terminal prompt, highlight the results, copy and paste them back here, that should provide enough information.

As user "all41" just mentioned, and I agree with, I do not know of any method to get the current FFmpeg programs updated, except by using a PPA. The repositories (repos, Software Manager, or Synaptic Package Manager (SPM)) are not as up to date with FFmpeg programs, not sure about Linux Mint 18 though. The "FFmpeg" programs are very important because they are used by a lot of applications, including browsers. There are a few reliable and safe PPA's to get the current FFmpeg, I have two installed, and I have not had any problems with my system by installing these. You can easily disable and or remove a PPA through the Update Manager if you want or need to. Some people, myself included, depending on the PPA will install the PPA, then update, and install any applications that you need or want from it, then go into the Mint Update Manager, Software Sources, PPA, and disable the PPA, by unchecking it, and refreshing.

To install this using the PPA method, open a console terminal, type in, or copy & paste, each line below one by one:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mc3man/trusty-media
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ffmpeg

OR, this is what I use & have installed:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kirillshkrogalev/ffmpeg-next
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mc3man/trusty-media
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ffmpeg

Here are the available reliable PPA's for FFmpeg that I know of.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kirillshkrogalev/ffmpeg-next
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mc3man/trusty-media
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:jon-hedgerows/ffmpeg-backports

VIP Note: There is another PPA that has a lot of really great updated Photo and Image related software applications that "MintGuide.org" recommends (photivo, macrofusion, smartshine, fotoxx, photocollage, etc..), and it also has a version of "FFmpeg", that unfortunately wants to remove some other application programs that I want to keep, like the excellent "OBS" (open broadcast streaming app.). So, after installing this PPA and all the Photo and imaging programs that I want from it, I will disable the PPA by unchecking it in the Software Sources of the Mint Update Manager, and refreshing. If Mintguide.org notifies me of updates to any of these programs, I will re-enable the PPA, and during the updates, I will make sure to uncheck any updates to "FFmpeg" from "Dhor Trusty", then disable the PPA again. This is an extremely rare situation with PPA's in my experience.

Be cautious with this PPA.

FYI: The above information applies to anything being installed from the Mint Update Manager. Although it is rare, if you get a message to remove something during the Mint Update process, and you know or unsure that this is not a good thing to do, or bad thing to do, you can uncheck each item one at a time, click install, and if the message to remove something is still there, re-check the item you just unchecked, and uncheck the next item, click install, and see if the message to remove something is gone or still there, until you find out which item to be updated is causing the message(s). Then, post that in this forum for people to review if it is a good update item or not. Keep in mind that some updates will remove older versions of their software and that is what it is supposed to do.

How to Install FFmpeg on Ubuntu 22.04?

FFmpeg is a collection of tools that process audio and video files. It is open-source and completely free.
