Kali Linux 4.6.0-kali1-686-pae issues
Question: I’m trying to install Kali Linux (2017.3 32-bit) on my VirtualBox (5.2.2) but when I select ‘Install’ from the menu, I get an error saying Kernel panic and bad EIP value. Kali Linux: apt update returns «Hash Sum mismatch» error The fix was to: 1: Shutdown the Kali VM 2: Open cmd as an administrator 3: Run 4: Simply reboot Solution 3: For those who cannot disable hyper-v, because they must run Docker at the same time, then I had luck with ‘Kali Linux 32-bit (PAE) VirtualBox’.

Kali Linux installation
I’m trying to install Kali Linux (2017.3 32-bit) on my VirtualBox (5.2.2) but when I select ‘Install’ from the menu, I get an error saying Kernel panic and bad eip value . After that nothing happens. Please see the attached photo.
I have the VM on a Win10 machine. The ISO checksum matches for my download. have tried installation with Debian (32bit) as well and it worked just fine.
You’re running a 64bit host OS (Windows 7). But you say that you can run only 32bit guests. The reason for this is that you need to enable virtualisation settings in the BIOS.

After doing a bit of googling I found two other people who had the same issue as me.
Both of which had the same solution that looked promising.
Unfortunately, even after editing /etc/apt/sources.list to use other mirrors from http://mirror.anquan.cl/kali I still get the same error.
Edit (clarification): The solutions I’ve found online, the links above, all say to change the mirror used in /etc/apt/sources.list which doesn’t work for me.
Try using another mirror from the official mirror list and add it to /etc/apt/sources.list .

After a couple of hours more googling I found this post which can explain the problem a lot better than I could.
Kali Linux: apt update returns » Hash Sum mismatch» error
2: Open cmd as an administrator
3: Run bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off
For those who cannot disable hyper-v, because they must run Docker at the same time, then I had luck with ‘Kali Linux 32-bit (PAE) VirtualBox’. No checksum errors there.
I had the same issue and this resolved it for me:
mkdir /etc/gcrypt echo all >> /etc/gcrypt/hwf.deny apt update

Package «linux-headers» not available in Kali Linux
I found a tutorial of how to Install Kali Linux on VirtualBox . Everything was going fine, until I enter this command:
sudo apt update && sudo apt install -y linux-headers - $(uname -r)
It says that package linux-headers is not availabe but is referred by another package and I get these errors:
E: Package 'linux-headers' has no installation candidate E: Unable to locate package 5.7.0-kali1-amd64 E: Couldn't find any package by glob '5.7.0-kali1-amd64'
Also, what does parameter -y means in sudo apt install -y linux-headers — $(uname -r) ?
sudo apt update && sudo apt install -y linux-headers-$(uname -r)
The -y arguments answers “yes” to all non-essential prompts. In this particular case, it will avoid apt stopping to wait for input after listing the packages it’s going to install.
