Конечно нет,если 64-х разрядная,то всё равно ,какой образ ставить в качестве гостевой.
А вот если бы была 32-х у основной системы,то 64-х разрядность гостевой ОС не подойдёт.
Открываем настройки в Virtualbox:
Kali
Всё должно установиться и нормально работать ,если образ не кривой и с официального ресурса.

Tips and Tricks: Fixing VirtualBox Kali Linux Black Screen

Kali Linux Black Screen

Hello friends and welcome to HaXeZ. So, you have run in to the VirtualBox Kali Linux Black Screen Bug? After all that effort spent downloading it and importing the appliance, you’re excited, you attempt to login in and… nothing. Just a black screen. How disappointing. Do you reinstall it? Give up? Or do you fix it and add that knowledge to your mind palace.

The Cause Of The Black Screen

The likely cause of this problem is due to the VirtualBox Guest Additions either not being installed or not being the correct version. Either way, we need to get them installed to rule this out as a problem.

Kali Linux Black Screen

Grab A Shell

Start the Virtual Machine and wait for it to get to the login prompt. Before logging in press your right CTRL key (VirtualBox host key) and your F2 key . If you ever need to do this natively on Linux then it will be left CTRL, ALT and F2 . This sends a signal to the operating system to spawn a virtual text only terminal or a TTY. To get back to the Desktop environment you need to press left CTRL and F8 .

Install The Guest Additions

Now login to the Operating System using your credentials. If it is a Kali Virtual Machine downloaded from their website then the credentials are likely either username: kali, password: kali or username: root, password: toor. Once you have logged in you need to instruct VirtualBox to mount the guest additions CD. From the menu, Devices > Insert Guest Additions CD Image.

Kali Linux Black Screen - Insert Guest Additions CD

Mount The cdrom

In order to access the content of the Guest Additions CD, you first need to mount it. You could create a mountpoint manually or you could run the following command. As you can see, the command is mounting the device ‘ cdrom ’ (denoted by the ‘ /dev/ ’ directory) to ‘ /media/cdrom ’ directory.

sudo mount /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom

Now, if you list out the contents of the ‘ /media/cdrom ’ directory you should see a file called VBoxLinuxAdditions.run .

Install The Guest Additions

In order to install the Guest Additions you need to run that VBoxLinuxAdditions.run file. To do this simply run the following command.

sudo /media/cdrom/VBoxLinuxAdditions.run

You may be prompted to press enter but wait for the process to complete and then reboot your system with the reboot command.

Login In

Once the system has been rebooted, try logging in with your username and password. Hopefully you should now be presented with your desktop and are able to go about your nefarious hacking activities.

Other Suggestions For Black Screen

If for some reason that didn’t work then there are some other things you could try. One of the other common reasons for this error is due to the display settings. Although changing this has never resolved the problem for me, I thought it was worth a mention. In VirtualBox, head to the settings and then the display settings. Try toggling 3D acceleration and changing the amount of video memory. I’ve heard this has resolved the issue for other people but again I’ve never been able to resolve the problem this way.

I imported virtual box image, started the machine and got a blank black screen.

1 Answer 1

There are a number of reasons that might cause this issue:

First make sure you downloaded the right version for your computer, so when downloading Kali

Make sure you download it from here (https://www.offensive-security.com/kali-linux-vmware-virtualbox-image-download/), Make sure you click on the virtual box tab to download the virtual box image.

enter image description here

Download the 32 bit version if your computer is 32 bits, otherwise use the 64 but version.

The downloaded file should have a .ova extension, if it doesn’t then you did NOT download the right file. If you’re already using the right version then make sure that hardware virtualisation or VT is enabled from your bios, this is different depending on your computer, the usual procedure is.

reboot your computer. Look for instructions (on the bottom of the screen) on how to enter bios settings . In the settings look for VT or hardware virtualisation, enable it, save and quit. If you need more help then google How to enable virtualisation on , replace with your computer model.

If none of the above fixed the issue for you then right click the virtual machine name from virtual box, go to settings > General and make sure that the type is set to Linux and version is set to Debian 64 or Debian 32 depending on the Kali version you downloaded.

enter image description here

If you tried everything above and Kali is still not starting, then try increasing the video memory, this is a solution suggested by a user here “Asadmammadov” , to do that right click the virtual machine name from virtual box, go to settings > System and try increasing the video memory at least over the minimum level.

Black screen Kali Linux 2016.2 on VirtualBox

Does anyone know the solution to the dreaded black screen on Kali Linux when booting from VirtualBox? I imported the ova appliance straight from Kali’s website (Kali-Linux-2016.2-vbox-i686.ova) and, set the video memory to 128MB, switched the USB 2.0 to USB 1.0 as instructed (to get it to boot at all). I’ve tried the «root»/»toor» combo as suggested by other posts, but nothing seems to work. It looks like it’s running, however. Never had this problem with other versions of Linux to date. Any ideas?

Did you properly install the Grub boot loader? You have to click yes in the option which appears in the end of installing the kali VM — «Install the Grub boot loader to the Master boot record»

I have the black screen problem with the latest Kali VirtualBox Image 2019.2 with Virtualbox 5. I updated to Virtualbox 6, and the problem is solved. Kali VirtualBox Image is usually made with the latest virtualbox, so it’s a good idea to keep your Virtualbox up to date, if you encounter any problems.

I just had this issue. It turned out, after trying a bunch of other stuff, that it was caused by the OS being set to Ubuntu 32 bit instead of 64 bit.

I turned back on the stuff I had turned off, like PEA/NX, 3d acceleration, etc. from the default. Seems to work fine now that it has the correct OS.

Worked for me, hope it helps someone. BTW — host system is Windows 10 Pro 64 bit.

I had a black screen running Kali in Virtualbox just after installing it and installing all the updates and was able to fix it by going into system settings in Virtualbox and just unchecking the Enable 3d acceleration box in the Display settings.

Kali Linux on Virtual Box — I think this is the same question. I just answered this guy too. I had the same problem. I had a black screen because kali was running, but I couldn’t see it. So, click view at the top and select switch to scaled view. This should adjust the display so that kali recognizes it and shows you what you should be seeing.

I’ve been struggling with the black screen issue for a LONG time.

Here’s how I was able to fix it the other day.

  • Launch virtualbox, go to help > about virtualbox
  • Take a look at your current version. If you’re running a 5x version, then you have found your issue.
  • Remove virtualbox from your machine. If you’re on linux, use the following commands(your vms shouldn’t be deleted when doing this) sudo apt-get remove virtualbox; sudo apt-get purge virtualbox*;
  • Once you’ve uninstalled virtualbox, go and download the latest version from the website : https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads Make sure that you get the one for your current version of linux. Find your current version with this command uname -a
  • After downloading the virtualbox deb package, install it with the following command(replace the file path with that of your specific deb package) : dpkg -i ~/Downloads/virtualbox-.1_6.1.18-142142~Ubuntu~bionic_amd64.deb

Once done, you should be able to launch virtualbox and run kali without issues. I figured out that this was the issue for me after learning that kali is developed and tested using the most recent versions of virtualbox and vmware.

Hope this resolves the issue for someone else too!

The problem is that the laptop VirtualBox is installed does not have hardware virtualization as an option (a low end dual core intel B960 CPU) which explains a lot. The solution is to tell Kali to not look for Xen at boot.

These instructions will solve this little problem. Press «e» at the boot menu, scroll to the line that starts with «linux» and remove «quiet» and add «noreplace-paravirt» to the line, hit ctrl-x and let it finish booting (may take a couple of minutes), then login. Open a terminal and edit the /etc/default/grub w/editor of your choice and change GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=»quiet» to «GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=»noreplace-paravirt» Run «update-grub» and reboot.
