Kali linux ethernet network disconnected

ethernet disconnected, shows up in ifconfig

Save and restart. Use Network manager to edit the connection and set it to automatically connect.

This command will open the interfaces file in Gedit with permission to save the file:

sudo gedit /etc/network/interfaces

I have both a wired and a wireless connection and all that is in my interfaces file is these two lines

auto lo iface lo inet loopback

I have found from experience than anything else will prevent a connection and removing what is extra will solve the problem.

Solution 2

  1. Basic layer 1 ground check — is your ethernet port connected and are you sure the wire and modem port are fine? Please confirm that the ethernet port light blinks (either green or amber) when you connect the wire. Otherwise it is a physical layer issue. Does it work on other machines at the same swtich-port?
  2. Assuming the above is taken care of, Have you tried sudo ifconfig eth0 up ?
  3. Also, check your /etc/network/interfaces file and see if the following line is there auto eth0 This automatically enables eth0 on startup

I am running 11.04, no remix. After installation, I could use wireless networks, but not ethernet. When I click on the connections menu item, it says

How can I get my internet connected? [ Kali Linux ]

I’m new to linux and am running a fresh install of Kali Linux on hyper-v and am having issues with connecting to the internet via my ethernet cable, which appears when I run ifconfig. I am confused on how I was able to install Kali Linux, but not that I have it running, the internet won’t connect. enter image description here
Things I have done to try and resolve:

  • Updated /etc/resolv.conf to «nameserver 8.8.8.8«, as it was a symbolic link beforehand.
  • Changed my /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf settings so managed is set to true.
  • Ran ifconfig to check if my network is being picked up at all (it is). enter image description here
  • Ran sudo apt update and tried reinstalling the resolvconf service. It failed because I can’t access the internet to install it. enter image description hereenter image description here
  • Reinstalled Kali Linux, and tried installing ParrotOS. Both times the same issue with resolvconf occured.

I have come across a few key errors which may be of importance:

enter image description here

  • Your network may not be using DHCP
  • Temporary failure in name resolution
  • resolvconf service does not exist
  • package ‘resolvconf’ has no installation candidate (from when I try to install resolvconf)

Please configure a connection with DHCP to get an IP address. You can do so via the graphical network manager
