Kobo aura no wifi

Kobo aura no wifi

News and discussion about the Kobo line of ebook readers.

I’ve had my Kobo for years and years and never had this problem, but suddenly it will not connect to my wifi.

I normally have wifi off and only turn it on to sync when I need it. I borrowed a book using Libby last night and turned on wifi to sync. The kobo tried to connect to my usual wifi connection but couldn’t. Instead I got—Unable to join «network». Please try again.

I tried again, same result. I tried with my iPhone hotspot, which is my backup when my home internet is wonky. No dice. Unable to join «network». Please try again.

  • forgetting and re-entering the network and password
  • restarting the router (which is dumb because literally every other device is connecting fine)
  • connecting to my Mac and updating the firmware

It still won’t connect and now it also no longer sees my iPhone hotspot. I have re-typed the password many many times and it has not been mistyped, but every time—Unable to join «network». Please try again.

AND, in frustration, I connected my kobo to my Macbook, downloaded the ADE file from my library and transferred it to the kobo, but when I disconnected and tried to open the book I get the notice that the device is not authorized to open the book.

I have erased authorization and re-authorized the computer twice, deleted and re-downloaded the file twice. Nothing.

Help, I’m tearing my hair out!

Kobo aura no wifi

I have a Kobo Aura 6 inch that will not connect to WIFI.
I connected it to my PC and updated the firmware to the latest firmware with Kobo Desktop and then did the Factory Reset but it still will not connect to WIFI.
I have tried changing my wireless router from mixed to N only and have changed it to an open network with no password but it still will not connect to WIFI.

I have a Kobo Aura HD that connects with no problem.
Are there any other tricks to try before giving up?

The obvious question to ask:

Is it just your WiFi network that it won’t connect to, or will it not connect to any WiFi network?

Yes, does it connect anywhere?

  • What happens when you try to connect?
  • Is an error displayed?
  • Has it ever connected?
  • Did you have internet connectivity at the time? When connecting, the device attempts to get a page from the net. If this cannot be retrieved, the WiFi connection is dropped.

I am trying to do the initial setup when it says «Welcome to Kobo. Set up your e-reader in just a few easy steps. Set up over Wi-Fi.»
Then it searches for Wi-Fi connections and it finds my router.
Then when I try to connect it tries for about 30 seconds and then comes back with the error
Unable to join. Please try again.

It’s not a password problem because I switched my router to an open network with no password and it still will not connect that way either.

I also tried changing from mixed mode to N only and that did not work either.

I have not taken it anywhere to test it on a different router but my Aura HD and other devices connect to the same WIFI connection and access the internet just fine.

If it works with your other Kobos it’s strange for this one to fail. If it didn’t even see the network in the first place, it could be a hardware issue, but.

Did you factory reset it or just format the user partition? It keeps a wifi config file in the root filesystem that does not go away until you factory reset so it could be some leftover getting in the way.

If all else fails you’ll just have to setup through PC, update it to latest firmware (download links in this forum) and hope it will work then.

Yes. I did connect it to my PC and updated the firmware to the latest firmware with Kobo Desktop and then did the Factory Reset on the device menu but it still will not connect to WIFI.

Hi. Yesterday I got a new Kobo Aura H2O. Nice to have, but one problem cant be solved: Wi-fi connection. I cant pass the initial setup after a basic and factory reset, due to earlier Wi-fi problems.

My home Wi-fi situation is very good and all my devices are running smoothly on the Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 R7000.
Router information:
WPA2-PSK secured
3 devices 2,4G wireless,
1 device 5G wireless,
1 device wired
Firmware version V1.0.7.12_1.2.5

Wireless settings:
2,4 Ghz
Region Europe
Channel auto (13)
Mode Up to 600 Mbps
Wireless AP On
Broadcast Name on
Wi-Fi Protected Setup Configured

5 Ghz
2,4 Ghz
Region Europe
Channel 36 + 40+ 44 (P) + 48
Mode Up to 1300 Mbps
Wireless AP On

Do you have an idea to solve this annoying problem? Thanks for replies!

Not sure if the same firmware is used in Europe but in North America, the newest firmware for a R7000 is 1.0.9.32.

I would also suggest changing the 2.4GHZ channel to a lower number (the 5GHz channel is a non-issue for Kobo’s ereaders). I had an issue with my R7000P when I tried using channel 12. In Canada, channel 12 is only usable in a low power mode which my Kobo ereaders didn’t want to connect to.

no WIFI on kobo aura edition 2 #208

no WIFI on kobo aura edition 2 #208

Comments

I bought a kobo aura edition 2 last week.
Installed xcsoar 6.8.11

Tapping ‘Network» ‘button’ (before starting xcsoar on main screen) display shows: ‘WIFI ON’ but in fact the wifi is not working. When pressed whole line turns blacks for a couple of seconds but wifi still not working.
Second line ‘WiFi’ is greyed out.

Sticker says: product # N236-KU-BK-K-EP
FCC ID:NOIKBN236
IC: 8857A-KBN237

Kobo runs the latest firmware.

The text was updated successfully, but these errors were encountered:

https://github.com/XCSoar/XCSoar/blob/master/kobo/kernel/aura2.config Is the kernel configuration for the KOBO Aura 2. Is the driver missing, or is just not compiled in?

Hi Phillip, To be honest I really don’t know. How can I compile it? Is there a tutorial for how to compile? I’d like to contribute but don’t know how. Regards, Jerome

The driver is not compiled when kernel is compiled. XCSoar uses the driver which comes with Kobo.

So is it possible to add another driver for xcsoar to use?

Just installed the latest version and have the same bug.

I have a Kobo Touch 2 working with XCSoar 6.8.13 — there is a fatal bug in this compilation for Kobo that prevents the use of the Kobo WiFi for transfer of data to XCSoar over WiFi from Condor or other source of NMEA data.

As previously reported, looking in network shows wifi to be ‘on’ but the second button is greyed out. Switch WiFi off and then use the second button to select the correct WiFi network, and you will find ‘WiFi on’ and the second button still active. This is unexpected behaviour.

The port properly assigned shows ‘Not Connected’ and will not connect when the ‘Reconnect’ button is pressed. Go to monitor and there is no stream. From Monitor, try ‘Reconnect’ and it displays the significant error message ‘Device is Occupied’ which of course is fatal.

When I quit XCSoar and go to Nickel then I find the WiFi is not automatically connected. I have to manually select the network I want and re-supply the password (which I have previously saved) to make the connection. Sometimes I can reconnect, but most times I have to turn off kobo and switch it on again, going straight to Nickel without running XCSoar. WiFi is disconnected, but will reconnect (without supplying the password) automatically to the last used network if I press the WiFi icon at the top. This would normally happen automatically when switching on, so it seems the XCSoar installation is interfering with the WiFi without switching it on properly.

There is no way (I have found) to go back from Nickel to XCSoar with the WiFi properly connected, nor any way I have found in XCSoar to make the WiFi connection.

I am convinced that this is an issue with XCSoar software and nothing directly to do with Kobo; as an experiment I loaded the Kobo version of LK8000: this allows me to configure and use (n LK8000) the wireless connection for taking NMEA data from Condor!
