About The Game
Left 4 Dead 2 is the highly regarded sequel to the award-winning Left 4 Dead, the best co-op game of 2008. In this cooperative first-person horror shooter, you and your friends will take you and your friends through five large campaigns through the cities, swamps and graveyards of the very southern United States, from Savannah to New Orleans.
You have to play as one of four new survivors, using a variety of furious cannons to fight enemies, including updated copies from the first part of the game. Plus, you can pour out your aggression on the infected with gruesome melee weapons like a chainsaw, ax, and deadly frying pan. All of these toys you will have to use against three terrifying new special infected (or they will already be used against you). In addition, you will be able to meet five “non-standard” common zombies, including the intimidating Mud Man.
The revamped Director also brings the addictive gameplay of the first part of the game to a new level. Now he can change the weather, the path of passage, not to mention the number of enemies, effects, sounds and other things that will correspond to your level of play. Each time L4D2 will “test” you in a new way, changing the approach to you and adapting to your style of play.

Left 4 dead no steam linux

Ever since I first heard the news about L4D 2 running 20% faster on Linux than on Windows, I became very excited about the steamed penguins project. Now that I have a potentially working steam client installed on Ubuntu, I don’t see L4D as an option to install, even though I own the game. The only 2 options I see are counter-strike and half-life. How is L4D installed on Ubuntu?

Curiously although Valve mentioned using L4D2 in their PR it hasn’t seen a release on Linux yet. In time, I suppose.

I’m saying searching is how I found out about it. If you do a search for steam linux l4d you will see what I’m talking about.

It’s okay — everyone here meant well 🙂
Along with the entire community, I’ve been curious about why Left 4 Dead wasn’t released first as anticipated. I imagine nobody wants to create any unnecessary disappointment by asking why. But I am indeed curious.
Part of me wonders if it’s even something legal. EA had a part in Left 4 Dead 2, didn’t they?
Not starting rumors, just speculating lol.

Nope, no one have said that L4D2 is going to be their first release. Porting for internal testing and releasing to the public are two separate things. L4D2 as any other Valve game is going to be released for Linux sooner or later. 1000 threads like this all over the place, use SEARCH option next time.

Steam
One Valve game
Support for Ubuntu 12.04 and above

They were the distributor for the console versions. Because Valve was too lazy to self-publish apparently. Nothing relevant here.
And stop using «lol» like a piece of punctuation lol. Everyone knows you’re not really laughing lol. Lol lol.

valve has never officialy said that l4d would be the first game to release on linux. it was the first game they ported, and thats it. they are doing a great work so take it easy.

I came across a high ranking page that explicitly said in the title, «Steam moves to Linux, first title will be Left 4 Dead 2» so part of what makes these deliberately arrogant suggestions to «try and search there little guy» so humorous are all of the inconsistancy I find when doing searches. The irony is that the peole making these suggestions probably haven’t searched lately in order to see what the search scene looks like for this.
I think the closed beta people are allowed to play L4D but when they opened the public beta, they must have left the title out of our reach. Can anyone in the closed beta confirm whether that’s the case or not?
Part of the reason might be that with the news that L4D runs faster on linux being picked up by so many outlets that now they don’t want to release it until it’s free of glitches that would provide for a harsh linux rebuke from windows fans.

I was in the closed beta, and L4D was not in it. What I meant by do a search was do a search on this forum before making a post asking the same question that’s been asked numerous times already.

If by «closed beta» you mean the people who filled out the form and got emails telling us where to get the files back in December, then no, we don’t have access to Left 4 Dead either.
9 фев. 2013 в 12:54
Ah, I can see what you mean now, there are quite a few threads that include the word l4d in them on this forum. It probably has a lot to do with Valve’s initial ad campaign which discussed L4D2 and the fact that (at least for me) L4D was my primary impetus towards installing the steam Linux beta.

«High ranking page» propably did not read Valve’s blog carefully enough to understand it (happens all the time in so called journalism), just like you. The only proper source of information about Valve products is Valve itself, everything else should be taken in moderation. Valve has never publicly said that L4D2 is going to be first Linux title in beta, only that it’s their first working port.
Since all Valve games are going to be released for Linux sooner or later I advice you to just be patient and perhaps contribute at Github with bug reports or feature requests about Steam and already released titles (Valve or nonValve) to speed things up 🙂
