Acer Aspire One D257-1497 Resolution Help

Post by Shion Izumi » Sun Feb 05, 2012 11:37 am

Hello to everyone out there,

I have a question regarding the resolution settings for Linux Mint 12 and running it on an Acer Aspire One D257-1497. Two weeks ago I installed and was able to get Linux Mint running with no problems whatsoever, my biggest gripe however is the resolution settings. I did some quick searches and hunted down a program called Jupiter 0.0.53 that would let me change my resolution from 1024×600 to 1024×768, however upon changing to the latter of the two, I lose the ability to move the mouse down to the lower half of the screen where all of my open programs would minimize down to, and where the menu button is at. It simply floats down to where the screen would end at 1024×600 but not move down to the lower half. I read in some other posts that I could change around xconf and/or mess around with some other programs, but I have no clue on how. If anyone could help me out, it would be grateful. And if I posted this in the wrong forums, then my apologies.

Let’s first confirm the graphics chip and driver in use. Please share the output of the following command run on the terminal:

Then probably, this guide may be of use, depending on the results of above: http://forum.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.ph . 85#p444558 It would work without Jupiter if you card is the right kind.

Alright, I ran into a bit of a stump. I followed everything step by step and I get the following error whenever I use the —addmode part of xrandr. I’ll put below everything that happens with it.

rowin@rowin-AOD257 ~ $ xrandr --newmode "1024x768_60.00" 64.11 1024 1080 1184 1344 768 769 772 795 -HSync +Vsync rowin@rowin-AOD257 ~ $ xrandr --addmode LVDS1 "1024x768_60.00" X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes) Major opcode of failed request: 149 (RANDR) Minor opcode of failed request: 18 (RRAddOutputMode) Serial number of failed request: 25 Current serial number in output stream: 26

I’ve tried further steps in the post, since my machine also pops up with my display being LVDS1 but regardless on how I do it, I’m still getting stuck at the addmode stage. But to share whats on my xrandr verbose
