ATI All-in-Wonder HowTo

Introduction
The ATI All-in-Wonder Pro cards are notorious for the bad driver support under Linux. An advantage is that especially in HTPCs they use little space for a lot of functionality. Luckily there is a partial solution. The goal is just to be able to watch tv with tvtime. Recording through MythTV is currently NOT possible.
At http://www.rulerofearth.com/ you can obtain the source code for a kernel module by Eric Sellers, that makes it possible to easily access the recording function of the AIW.
SuSE 9.2
Install the kernel-source packet on top of the regular kernel. Change directory to /usr/src/linux. There execute the command make cloneconfig. This prepares the source code.
Mach64 video4linux2 module
Download this from http://www.rulerofearth.com/ and unpack it. In the new v412 directory execute the command make KDIR=/usr/src/linux. When no errors are reported, laod the new module with insmod ./genericv41.ko. With dmesg you can check to see if everything loaded correctly.
Modify MythTV
In the install directory of MythTV, either /usr/share/mythtv or /usr/local/share/mythtv (depending on the distribution), you only have to edit the file mainmenu.xml. You can simply add a new entry. The code looks like this:
Here is assumed that you’d have to have a second TV card to record. The AIW is therefore used as 2 cards just for viewing. When you use the code commented out by

. Note that this driver supports only older
AIWs and doesn’t work with MythTV.
x.org 7 is supposed to have the Rage Theatre 200 drivers rolled in which
should give support on the newer AIWs, however I haven’t had occasion to
try it, I quit using AIWs some time ago in favor of separate tuner boards.

Thread: ATI all-in-wonder

ATI all-in-wonder
I have an older computer up in my shop and it has an older ATI all-in-wonder card, a rage IIC 8meg AGP to be more exact. It works fine in win 98 and 2000, but I am trying to run hardy on it now and it’s a bit slow, 933 P3 with 512 ram, but it runs and does plenty other than no TV, which is it’s biggest reason for being. Is there software to get the tv working in Ubuntu? Any links would be appreciated. I searched the forum for ati AND tv but didn’t see anything relevant. Wonder got no hits. Thanks, Fred
I got Kukis in my aspire one!
Re: ATI all-in-wonder
ATI does not support the all-in-wonder cards TV feature with their proprietary linux drivers. I believe it has something to do with getting IP clearance from the company that wrote the code for that. It is an unfortunate situation that has become a trap for many older ati cards.
On a positive note, ATI has moved away from the use of IP that they are not the sole owners of so this issue is not a problem for their newer cards and will not be a problem in the future.
It is probable that someone is working to reverse engineer these cards, you can try widening your search.

ATI all in wonder support??
Does anyone know if you can use an ati all in Wonder hd premium card with mythbuntu? Myth says you cant but then it redirects with a link to another page that says you can. Help?

Re: ATI all in wonder support??
ATI does not support the tv capture portion of the all-in-wonder cards in linux so the proprietary fglrx driver will not do that for you. But that also does not mean that someone else has not figured it out. So, most likely someone had figured it out but official denial is necessary at some level.

Re: ATI all in wonder support??
I didn’t sat that. I said the fglrx driver will not do that for you. I saw a post around here a while ago where someone found a link that tells you how to get the video capture to work on those cards so it does seem possible.
Try a google search for ‘ati all in wonder» linux or something like that.
