The rate of printing in black with this machine is up to 40pages per minute in the normal mode. At the same time, it takes as fast as 6.5 seconds for the printer to produce its first page. But if the printer is in the sleep mode, the black first-page print should take at least 23 seconds. At the best method, Samsung ProXpress SL-M4020 produces a print quality resolution of 1200 x 1200 dots per inch (dpi). Whereas, this resolution is achievable through the rendering engine for clean pages (ReCP) component.

Similarly, in a month, the machine can produce up to 100,000 pages, especially with an A4 paper. However, Samsung recommends that the user should keep the work rate at 1500 to 3500 pages in a month. This recommended rate is essential to keep the printer in good shape for a long time. By the way, the machine also comes with a one-year hardware warranty to cover for any need for replacement. It also has a processor that can run a speed of 600 MHz.

Apart from the processor, another inbuilt component is the internal memory size of 256, which is expandable to 512 MB. Compatible print languages include PCL 5, PCL 6, PDF v1.7, PS 3, and the Samsung Printer language (SPL). The display part of the printer is on the control panel, which has a liquid crystal display (LCD). This component shows in two lines, the status of the machine in terms of cartridges of the number of the print.

The input tray will conveniently hold up to 250 sheets of plain paper together with a multipurpose tray for 50 sheets. On the other hand, the output tray will accommodate 150 sheets of printed documents. This machine also has a duplex printing, which allows printing on both sides of the page.
