Debian User Forums
This workflow i found on the diffren resources. Most of them are similar.
In a few words it could be discribed with this steps:
1. Correct the repository config file sources.list
deb http://ftp.ru.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main contrib non-free
aptitude update && aptitude install firmware-ralink
3. then download, compile and install drivers from ralink for » RT8070 /RT3070 /RT3370 /RT5370 /RT5372 USB» chipset family
And everything goes Right
root@debian:/home/maxim/Downloads/DPO_RT5572_LinuxSTA_2.6.1.3_20121022/os/linux# modprobe rt5572sta
And in the final trying to look on the new interface ra0 with ifconfig I see only eth0, lo
root@debian:/home/maxim# uname -a Linux debian 3.2.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.2.60-1+deb7u3 x86_64 GNU/Linux
The network manager still says that Wireless firmware missing.
This shows that the device presents in the system.

Ralink RT5370/proprietary driver
Post by paulf58 » Tue Sep 12, 2017 7:41 am
Have just installed Mint 18.2/MATE (32-bit) on a (10 year old) Compaq/HP 6720S. All good, with exception of a USB/wireless adapter I am using. The built-in Broadcom adapter is 802.11G only, and my home network is N, so would prefer to be able to use USB adapter (which I know to be working under Vista). Broadcom adapter is also turned-off in BIOS.
While installing from USB, the installer asked if I was OK to install proprietary drivers for the adapter (based on a Ralink RT5370). I OK-ed it, and started the install — but (foolishly) without ethernet plugged-in.
The adapter now doesn’t seem to work — had hoped it would get «discovered» during the update process, but it seems not.
My question is, can I manually add a driver to enable the adapter, or am I better to try to re-install from scratch, with ethernet connected, this time?
Any suggestions/wisdom welcome.
Have attempted to gather some maybe useful info here:
