1 Network support indicates built-in ethernet and/or wireless networking. Alternatively, many devices may be operated on the network using an external JetDirect print server. Not all network configurations are supported. Please refer to the HPLIP FAQs for more information.
2 USB mass storage only. You may mount the photocard as a storage drive over USB only. Refer to your distribution’s documentation for setup and usage instructions.
3 Scan supported means that PC initiated scan using a SANE compatible software application is supported over parallel, USB, or network (depending on I/O connection). Information on digital sending products is covered in note 9, below.
4 Photo supported means that the printer’s photo card slots are readable using either USB mass storage (USB only) or hp-unload (USB, parallel or network).
5 Fax supported means that PC initiated fax send is supported using hp-sendfax, once an appropriate CUPS fax queue is set up. Fax support varies on Linux distributions, based on the availability of python-dbus version 0.80 or greater (versions before 0.80 will not work with HPLIP). Click on the model name of each printer to get more detailed information.
6 Copy supported means that PC initiated copying is supported using hp-makecopies.
7 «Services and status» means that ink/toner levels, error reporting, and services such as alignment, and color calibration are available (via the HP Device Manager aka Toolbox).
8 («Required») A downloadable driver plug-in is required for printing support. («Optional») A downloadable driver plug-in is optional for printing support and may increase the speed, quality, or other aspect of printed output. («No» or «None») A driver plug-in is not required nor available. Driver plug-ins are released under a proprietary (non-open) license and are not part of the HPLIP tarball release. For more information, please refer to this KB article
9 Device supports digital sending, not standard scanning protocols. See this KB article for more info.
10 Feature support depends on the specific Linux distribution being used.
11 For a definition of Support Levels, please refer to this KB article.
12 For more information, please refer to this KB article.
13 The «Summary of Available Features in Various Linux Distributions» table lists available features for distros that are supported by the HPLIP automatic tarball installer. Distros that are not listed will require a manual install procedure (See this page for more information).
14 «Qt3» and «Qt4» refer to the supported UI toolkit. If «Qt3» is indicated, then the distro supports a GUI interface using the Qt3 UI toolkit. The Qt4 toolkit is not supported for the distro in this case. If «Qt4» is indicated, then the distro supports a GUI interface using the Qt4 UI toolkit. In this case, the Qt3 UI toolkit may also be available and used if desired. The appropriate UI toolkit will be automatically installed by the HPLIP installer.
15 «Recommended» means that the printer is fully supported in HPLIP and is recommended for use on your Linux system. For information of what «fully supported» means, see this KB article.
How to install a HP LaserJet P1102w? [duplicate]
I just did an install of the hp laserjet P1102w printer and it’s not working. I’m using Ubuntu 12.04, and I went to see if I had hplip installed and it said I did. How do I set up this printer?
this worked for me setting up a Laserjet P1102w over lan on Lubuntu 15.10: askubuntu.com/a/575568/124393

I’m using Ubuntu 13.10 and tried to use my HP LaseJet P1102w but it wouldn’t respond to the printing requests, neither with Wi-Fi or USB cable connected. Ubuntu 13.10 already comes with this printer pre-configured with default settings. You should be able to just choose it on a list and use, with no need to «add a new printer».
However, for me the default setting (HPLIP libary and driver ‘hpcups 3.13.9’) didn’t work. When you send a request to the printer, the LED blinks but nothing else happends. Switching to the alternative driver ‘Foomatic/foo2zjs-z2’, already included with Ubuntu 13.10, solved the problem. Now it works via Wi-Fi or USB cable.
In case you don’t know how to, or don’t want to, change the default instalation, you can add a new printer following this step-by-step:
2) Go to ‘System Settings’ and ‘Printers’
4) Select your printer on the list of Wi-Fi printers brodcasting on your area (Network printers). If you prefer to connect to the printer via USB, just connect the cable, prior to this step, and choose the printer shown to be connected via cable, shown on the top of the instalation window.
5) Choose the ‘HPLIP’ option that will show up on the right frame.
6) Enter the names you want to use to identify it and click OK, to finish. Your printer should have been added now to the list of installed printers.
7) Double-click on you printer icon, to go to the properties.
8) Click on ‘Change’ at ‘Make and Model’.
9) Choose ‘HP’ on the list of manufacturers.
10) Choose model ‘LaserJet Pro P1102w’ and the only driver that will show up (Foomatic/foo2zjs-z2). If you choose the recommended model ‘LaserJet Professional P1102w’ the driver option that will show up is ‘hpcups 3.13.9’, which, at least for me, didn’t work out. Click next.
11) I recommend to choose ‘new PPD’, although the re-use of an older PPD can also be used. Click Apply.
12) Your printer should be responding properly now.

How can I install HP Laserjet P1102w on Ubuntu?
I have Ubuntu 14.04. I was using a HP Laserjet 6L which worked after strugling with it for several days. I now have HP LaserjetP1102w and I just cannot get it to print. When I installed it the computer recognised it. I went to properties and tried to print test page but nothing happened. I rebooted computer but still nothing. I looked at some other answers regarding similar problems but could not understand a lot of it.

Open a terminal. Ctrl Alt T .
sudo -i apt-get update apt-get install --reinstall hplip hp-setup -i
Select the USB option from the list, and follow the prompts.
It will then ask about a propriatry plugin, let it download this , agree to the license then follow the rest of the prompts.
You left everything to default m for name of print queue, say y for the selected PPD being correct, put location to Home, and left additional information blank, then y to print a test page.
The printer should now work over USB.
Check the test page looks correct.
On the left side of the printer is a WiFi button, press it and it will create an Ad-Hoc WiFi network which you can connect to.
Connect to this using a suitable device, it will need a WiFi connection, either use your Gnu/Linux machine directly.
Once connected, find the IP Address of the printer by holding the red X button on the printer, which will make it print out a configuration sheet containing the IP Address.
Connect using a web browser to this IP address, and within the Network Settings, configure the connection to your actual WiFI network.
Check and double-check the settings are correct, then once saving the settings, it should try to connect to your WiFi network.
On your Gnu/Linux machine, remove the USB version of the printer within the System —Administration—Printing menu, then run this command to run setup again:
Select the Network option from the list, have it download the plugin and accept the license again if asked, fill in the same prompts as above, and you should be ready to print over wireless.
